Plant-plant interactions are major determinants of the dynamics of terrestrial ecosystems. There is a long tradition in the study of these interactions, their mechanisms and their consequences using experimental, observational and theoretical approaches. Empirical studies overwhelmingly focus at the level of species pairs or small sets of species.

We tested the potential of novel reduced graphene oxide (rGO) electrodes implanted epidurally over the hind limb representation of the primary somatosensory (S1) cortex of rats, and compared them to commercial platinum-iridium (Pt-Ir) 16-channel electrodes (active site diameter: 25m).Motor and somatosensory information was decoded offline from microelectrocorticography (ECoG) signals recorded while unrestrained rats performed a simple behavioral task: pressing a lever and the subsequent vibrotactile stimulation of the glabrous skin at three displacement amplitude levels and at two sinusoidal frequencies.

Here, we report that negative clinical outcomes in severely ill patients were associated with divergent RNA transcriptome profiles in peripheral immune cells compared with mild cases during the first weeks after disease onset. Protein-protein interaction analysis indicated that early-responding cytotoxic natural killer cells were associated with an effective clearance of the virus and a less severe outcome.

Methods: A secondary analysis of patients included in the EAHFE (Epidemiology of Acute Heart Failure in Emergency Departments) cohort, which includes patients diagnosed with AHF in 45 Spanish Emergency Departments (EDs). The primary outcome was all-cause in-hospital mortality.
Aims: To investigate whether seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations influence the severity of decompensations and long-term outcomes of patients with acute heart failure (AHF).
Methods And Results: We included consecutive AHF patients attended at 40 Spanish emergency departments during November and December 2022. They were grouped according to whether they had received seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccination.
Background: Learning to thinking critically about health information and choices can protect people from unnecessary suffering, harm, and resource waste. Earlier work revealed that children can learn these skills, but printing costs and curricula compatibility remain important barriers to school implementation. We aimed to develop a set of digital learning resources for students to think critically about health that were suitable for use in Kenyan, Rwandan, and Ugandan secondary schools.

However, a proper understanding of the impact of this phenomenon, which causes important limitations for the optimization of graphene-based devices operating in aqueous electrolytes, is missing. We used graphene-based electrodes on insulating and conducting substrates to evaluate the impact of intercalated water by combining experimental techniques with numerical simulations.

The core component of these devices is the electrode array, which enables interfacing with retinal neurons. Generating the perception of meaningful images requires high-density microelectrode arrays (MEAs) capable of precisely activating targeted retinal neurons.

Methods: We analysed the characteristics of patients with AHF and LBBB at the time of inclusion in the EAHFE (Epidemiology Acute Heart Failure Emergency) cohort to determine the indication for CRT, the timing of implementation and its impact on 10-year all-cause mortality.
Results: 729 patients with a median age of 82 years and there was a high burden of comorbidities and functional dependence.
The persistence of photoresist residues from microfabrication procedures causes significant obstacles in the technological advancement of graphene-based electronic devices. These residues induce undesired chemical doping effects, diminish carrier mobility, and deteriorate the signal-to-noise ratio, making them critical in certain contexts, including sensing and electrical recording applications. In graphene solution-gated field-effect transistors (gSGFETs), the presence of polymer contaminants makes it difficult to perform precise electrical measurements, introducing response variability and calibration challenges.

This study investigates the utilization of nanogels as carriers for the model antigen ovalbumin, with a focus on in vivo assessments in equine and murine models. Nanogels, owing to their biocompatibility and tunable physicochemical properties, offer a versatile platform for efficient antigen encapsulation and controlled release.

The process is governed by variables such as gas-water interfacial tension, wetting transition, and gas adsorption into water, among other things. However, the influence of the pressure and temperature on these parameters is poorly understood.

Here, we experimentally estimated PSFs affecting seedling recruitment in 10 co-occurring Mediterranean woody species. We estimated weak but significant species-specific feedback.

All ED AHF patients enrolled in the previously described EAHFE registry were stratified by the presence or absence of an AHF hospitalization admission in the prior 12 months. The primary outcome was 12-month all-cause mortality post ED visit.

Current methodology used to investigate how shifts in brain states associated with regional cerebral blood volume (CBV) change in deep brain areas, are limited by either the spatiotemporal resolution of the CBV techniques, and/or compatibility with electrophysiological recordings; particularly in relation to spontaneous brain activity and the study of individual events. Additionally, infraslow brain signals (<0.1 Hz), including spreading depolarisations, DC-shifts and infraslow oscillations (ISO), are poorly captured by traditional AC-coupled electrographic recordings; yet these very slow brain signals can profoundly change CBV.

Graphene solution-gated field-effect transistors (gSGFETs) offer high potential for chemical and biochemical sensing applications. Among the current trends to improve this technology, the functionalization processes are gaining relevance for its crucial impact on biosensing performance. Previous efforts are focused on simplifying the attachment procedure from standard multi-step to single-step strategies, but they still suffer from overreaction, and impurity issues and are limited to a particular ligand.
