Factors affecting diabetic patient's long-term quality of life after simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation: a single-center analysis.

Purpose: Pancreas transplantation (PT) is one of the few ways to restore euglycemia within diabetic patients; however, the high morbidity caused by surgical complications and the need for immunosuppressive therapy has raised controversy about PT improving the health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL). The aim of this study is to assess the long-term (≥ 5 years after PT) HRQoL and to identify the factors affecting it.

Methods: A single-center, cross-sectional study of 49 sequential PT was performed.

Development and results of a novel pancreas transplant program in Spain: the surgeon's point of view.

Introduction: Simultaneous kidney-pancreas transplantation for patients with type 1 diabetes and end-stage chronic renal disease is widely performed. However, the rate of surgical morbidity from pancreatic complications remains high. The aim of this study was to describe the development and results of a new program, from the point of view of the pancreatic surgeon.

[Gastroenteric reconstruction route after pancreaticoduodenectomy: antecolic versus retrocolic].

Introduction: Delayed gastric emptying (DGE) is a relatively common complication after cephalic pancreaticoduodenectomy (CPD). Its origin is not very clear, and it is believed that its appearance is due to multiple factors (hormones, appearance of other complications, particularly pancreatic fistulas, and the surgical technique). Among the technical aspects associated with DGE, it has been proposed that the route of gastroenteric reconstruction (antecolic or retrocolic) could have an effect on its incidence.

Complete clinical response of liver metastasis after chemotherapy: To resect or not?

This paper aims to update the therapeutical strategies in liver metastasis with complete clinical response (CCR) after chemotherapy and to determine if surgery is always necessary after CCR. The aim of chemotherapy is to achieve a good clinical response rather than CCR of liver metastasis. The CCR of liver metastasis after chemotherapy cannot be considered synonymous with a cure.
