High abundant protein depletion is a common strategy applied to increase analytical depth in global plasma proteomics experiment setups. The standard strategies for depletion of the highest abundant proteins currently rely on multiple-use HPLC columns or multiple-use spin columns. Here we evaluate the performance of spin columns for plasma depletion and show that the single-use spin reduces handling time by allowing parallelization and is easily adapted to a nonspecialized lab environment without reducing the high plasma proteome coverage and reproducibility.

Ocean warming is known to alter the performance and fitness of marine organisms albeit the proteome underpinnings of species thermal tolerance are still largely unknown. In this 1-month experiment we assessed the vulnerability of the gilt-head sea bream , taken here as a biological model for some key fisheries species, to ocean warming (control 18°C, nursery ground temperature 24°C and heat wave 30°C). Survival was impaired after 28 days, mainly at 30°C although fishes' condition was unaltered.

Protein equalization with dithiothreitol, protein depletion with acetonitrile and the entire proteome were assessed in conjunction with matrix assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry-based profiling for a fast and effective classification of patients with renal insufficiency. Two case groups were recruited as proof of concept, patients with chronic glomerulonephritis and diabetic nephropathy. Two key tools were used to develop this approach: protein concentration with centrifugal concentrator tubes with 10 KDa cut-off membranes and chemical assisted protein equalization with dithiothreitol or chemical assisted protein depletion with acetonitrile.

Unlabelled: Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) is a faster and more accurate method to identify intact bacteria than conventional microbiology and/or molecular biology methods. The MALDI-TOF MS method is potentially applicable in diagnostic laboratories to characterize commensal bacterial species, some of which are major pathogens, from human or animal gastrointestinal tracts. Methods And Materials: Thirty gypsum casts were divided into two groups in which the proximal surfaces of selected teeth were prepared using either a surveying device (Group 1) or the new ParalAB paralleling device (Group 2).
