JAK2, CALR, and MPL Mutation Profiles in Colombian patients with BCR-ABL Negative Myeloproliferative Neoplasms.

Background: Among the chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) not associated with BCR-ABL mutations are polycythemia vera, primary myelofibrosis, and essential thrombocythemia. These diseases are caused by mutations in genes, such as the JAK2, MPL, and CALR genes, which participate in regulating the JAK-STAT signaling pathway.

Objective: This study aimed to establish the frequencies of mutations in the JAK2, MPL, and CALR genes in a group of Colombian patients with a negative clinical diagnosis of BCR-ABL chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms.

Glomerulonephritis Secondary to Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia that Resolved after Induction Therapy.

The association of glomerulonephritis and malignant hematological disease is uncommon, but well known in chronic leukemias, lymphomas, and monoclonal gammopathies. However, only a few cases of glomerulonephritis and acute myeloid leukemia have been reported in the literature. We describe the first case of a genetically diagnosed acute promyelocytic leukemia presenting with nephrotic range proteinuria that resolved with induction therapy with ATRA and ATO and performed a comprehensive review of the literature.

Frequency of Aspirin Resistance in Ischemic Stroke Patients and Healthy Controls from Colombia.

Objective: To evaluate the aspirin resistance prevalence in patients with previous ischemic cerebrovascular disease undergoing aspirin therapy for secondary prevention.

Genetic and environmental factors interact in determining the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). The risk associated with the polymorphic variants G1691A of factor V (Factor V Leiden, FVL), G20210A of prothrombin (PT20210A) and C677T of methylentetrahydrofolate reductase (C677T MTHFR) genes has been investigated in many studies. We performed a pooled analysis of case-control and cohort studies investigating in adults the association between each variant and VTE, published on Pubmed, Embase or Google through January 2010.
