Background: The microbiota is increasingly recognized as a significant factor in the pathophysiology of many diseases, including cardiometabolic diseases, with lifestyles probably exerting the greatest influence on the composition of the human microbiome. The main objectives of the study are to analyze the association of lifestyles (diet, physical activity, tobacco, and alcohol) with the gut and oral microbiota, arterial aging, and cognitive function in subjects without cardiovascular disease in the Iberian Peninsula. In addition, the study will examine the mediating role of the microbiome in mediating the association between lifestyles and arterial aging as well as cognitive function.

Risky sexual behaviors, such as not using a condom for preventing sexually transmittable diseases and unwanted pregnancies, are associated with emotional and psychological problems in adolescence, including higher levels of depression, anxiety, stress, and low self-esteem. Adolescents with a history of violence victimization are also at increased risk of engaging in sexual risk behaviors. In this study, we examined the associations between mental health disturbances and partner violence victimization and the non-use of condoms among young people in Spain.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the relationship between vitamin D deficiency (VDD) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in pregnant women, focusing on whether VDD is linked to GDM independently of body mass index (BMI).
  • The research involved a cross-sectional analysis of 886 pregnant women in Spain, finding a GDM prevalence of 10.5% and a VDD prevalence of 55.5%.
  • Results indicated that while both VDD and obesity were initially linked to GDM, only VDD remained statistically significant when adjusted for BMI, suggesting a direct association that merits further longitudinal research for causal insights.

We performed a retrospective analysis of patients with community-acquired APN and confirmed infection, collecting data related to demographic characteristics, comorbidities, and treatment. The associations of these factors with the presence of ESBL were quantified by fitting multivariate logistic models.
