Serology-based therapeutic strategy in SARS-CoV-2-infected patients.

SARS-CoV-2 infection can be a life-threatening disease. The optimal treatment of patients is not yet standardized. We use a serology-based therapeutic strategy based on the presence of antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, in which patients with positive serology receive aggressive anti-inflammatory treatment with high-dose dexamethasone and/or tocilizumab and patients with negative serology receive early convalescent plasma therapy.

Infective endocarditis in patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices: a nationwide study.

Aims: Patients with infective endocarditis (IE) frequently have cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs). Here, we aim to define the clinical profile and prognostic factors of IE in these patients.

Methods And Results: Infective endocarditis cases were prospectively identified in the Spanish National Endocarditis Registry.

Influenza A(H1N1)pdm09-related pneumonia and other complications.

Influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus infection was associated with significant morbidity, mainly among children and young adults. The majority of patients had self-limited mild-to-moderate uncomplicated disease. However, some patients developed severe illness and some died.

[Zoonotic infectious diseases].

To effect a structured review about what emerging zoonoses represent, we present the following aspects in a deliberately biased way: firstly, by way of introduction, we discuss certain concepts and characteristics common to the profile of an emergent agent; secondly, we comment on the factors that facilitate the emergence of zoonotic infections at present; and finally, we describe the surveillance, medical practice and laboratory work in this area.
