Article Synopsis
  • Primary Health Care (PHC) in Spain played a crucial role in managing COVID-19 by organizing practices that ensured quality and safety, with variations based on regional prevalence of the virus.
  • A study involving 266 Primary Care Providers (PCPs) highlighted that most were in high prevalence areas, primarily serving elderly and chronic patients, yet structural differences across regions were minimal.
  • The findings indicated greater use of remote services and administrative support in high prevalence regions, but most PCPs felt government support was insufficient, leading to delays in care for urgent conditions.

This study explores the influence of mental health and structural determinants of health on motivational readiness for health behaviour change in 1462 Spanish primary healthcare users. Chi-square test and structural equation modelling were performed. Results showed that depression and anxiety were negatively associated with being in the action stages of motivational readiness for a healthy diet and physical activity.

Introduction: The healthcare and well-being of the population depend on multiple factors and should adapt to societal changes. The opposite is also occurring; society has evolved concerning the individuals' approach to their care, which includes participation in decision-making processes. In this scenario, health promotion and prevention become crucial to provide an integrated perspective in the organization and management of the health systems.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to implement protocols that respond to the mental health demands of the population has been demonstrated. The PASMICOR programme started in March 2020, involving a total of 210 requests for treatment. Out of those subjects, the intervention was performed in 53 patients with COVID-19 without history of past psychiatric illness, 57 relatives and 60 health professionals, all of them within the area of Salamanca (Spain).

The third Global Patient Safety Challenge, Medication Without Harm, was launched in 2017 by the World Health Organization with the goal of reducing the already well-known severe preventable medication-related harm by 50% over the next 5 years. Nothing suggested that, two years later, the world would suffer a terrible pandemic, which has been a much greater challenge than the aforementioned one and that would put it to test from the first stages of the medication use process. The rapid pace imposed by the pandemic has created new risks in the use of medication in those affected by COVID-19 and in the population due to organizational changes in the provision of health care in health services.

Introduction: The aim of this work was to analyse the association of the retinal arteriolar calibre and the arteriole/venule index (AV index) with vascular ageing in a general population without previous cardiovascular disease.

Materials And Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study. A total of 482 individuals without cardiovascular disease (mean age: 55.

Background: The relationship between the quality of the diet and the adherence to the Mediterranean diet with the presence of persistent or recurrent depressive symptoms have been described. The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between adherence to the Mediterranean diet and the intake of specific foods in primary care patients aged 45 to 75, having subclinical or major depression. The study also specifically analyzes this relationship in individuals suffering from chronic diseases.

Purpose: To assess whether subjects with Philadelphia negative myeloproliferative neoplasms (Ph-MPNs) show differences in the presence of vascular, cardiac or renal target organ damage (TOD) and other vascular function parameters as compared to individuals without this condition.

Methods: An observational study was conducted. Fifty-seven subjects diagnosed with Ph-MPNs used as cases and 114 subjects without Ph-MPNs as controls.

Background: Multiple health behaviour change (MHBC) interventions that promote healthy lifestyles may be an efficient approach in the prevention or treatment of chronic diseases in primary care. This study aims to evaluate the cost-utility and cost-effectiveness of the health promotion EIRA intervention in terms of MHBC and cardiovascular reduction.

Methods: An economic evaluation alongside a 12-month cluster-randomised (1:1) controlled trial conducted between 2017 and 2018 in 25 primary healthcare centres from seven Spanish regions.

Objectives: The aim of this research was to evaluate the effects of adding 10 g of cocoa-rich chocolate (99%) to the habitual diet on cognitive performance in postmenopausal women.

Methods: Following a randomised controlled parallel clinical trial, a total of 140 postmenopausal women aged 50-64 were recruited. The intervention group ( = 73) consumed daily 10 g of chocolate (99% cocoa) in addition to their usual food intake for 6 months, whereas the control group ( = 67) did not receive any intervention.

Menopause has a negative impact on quality of life (QoL). The aim of the present study was to analyse the effect on QoL of adding 10 g per day of chocolate with a high concentration of cocoa (99%) to the habitual diet, for 6 months, in a sample of postmenopausal women. Postmenopausal women ( = 140) aged 50-64 years were randomised to either an addition of 10 g per day of cocoa-rich chocolate to their usual diet or no supplement addition.

During menopause, women undergo a series of physiological changes that include a redistribution of fat tissue. This study was designed to investigate the effect of adding 10 g of cocoa-rich chocolate to the habitual diet of postmenopausal women daily on body composition. We conducted a 6-month, two-arm randomised, controlled trial.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study assessed the impact of consuming 10 g of cocoa-rich chocolate daily for six months on blood pressure and cardiovascular health in 140 postmenopausal women, comparing an intervention group with a control group.
  • - Results showed no significant changes in systolic blood pressure or certain vascular metrics between the groups, although the intervention group experienced a small decrease in pulse pressure.
  • - Overall, while daily cocoa-rich chocolate intake had minimal positive effects on cardiovascular health, it also did not lead to any harmful effects on the evaluated health parameters over the six-month period.

Though many studies have explored the association between single-risk lifestyle interventions and depression, unhealthy lifestyle factors often co-occur, with adults engaging in two or more risk behaviours. To date, little is known about the effectiveness of universal multiple-risk lifestyle interventions to reduce depressive symptoms. We conducted a SR/MA to assess the effectiveness of universal multiple-risk lifestyle interventions (by promoting a healthy diet, physical activity and/or smoking cessation) to reduce depressive symptoms in adults.

Background And Objective: The estimation of cardiovascular risk (CVR) with scores at 30 years old has a special interest in reclassifying in a suitable way <60 year subjects with intermediate CVR. This study analyzes what percentage of patients with intermediate CVR included in the MARK study is reclassified by applying the 30-year Framingham score (FS30). It also analyzes the degree of agreement between the two equations to classify high risk subjects.
