Latino children are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder later in life, usually with more severe symptoms, and lower IQs, compared with non-Latino children. Possible reasons for such disparities could be due to lower levels of parent education, lower socioeconomic status, limited knowledge of parents about autism spectrum disorder, and diminished health-care knowledge. The goal of the study was to describe the age of parental concerns and at first autism spectrum disorder diagnosis, and factors associated with age at the first diagnosis in a sample of Venezuelan children.

Hereditary forms of multiple exostoses, now called EXT1/EXT2-CDG within Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation, are the most common benign bone tumors in humans and clinical description consists of the formation of several cartilage-capped bone tumors, usually benign and localized in the juxta-epiphyseal region of long bones, although wide body dissemination in severe cases is not uncommon. Onset of the disease is variable ranging from 2-3 years up to 13-15 years with an estimated incidence ranging from 1/18,000 to 1/50,000 cases in European countries. We present a double mutant alleles in the EXT1 gene not previously reported in a teenager and her family with hereditary multiple exostoses.

Haemophilia A (HA) and B (HB) are the most common inherited bleeding diseases. HA and HB are X-linked recessive disorders caused by mutation in the factor VIII gene which maps to Xq28 and factor IX located at Xq27, respectively; resulting in absence or deficiency of these proteins. Several mutations have been reported as responsible for the disturbance of these genes; therefore, the use of direct molecular techniques to analyze the carrier status of women and their affected fetuses in not easy to perform.

Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impairment of social interaction, language, communication, and stereotyped, repetitive behavior. Genetic predisposition to Autism has been demonstrated in families and twin studies. There is evidence (linkage and genetic association, biochemical, neuropathological, functional and cytogenetic) that the gamma-amino-butyric acid receptor beta 3 subunit gene (GABRB3) at 15q11-q13 is a susceptibility candidate gene for Autism.

Among genes implied on the osteoporosis genetics, the most studied gene worldwide is the receptor gene of D vitamin (VDR), through the characterization of Bsm I polymorphism. The main objective of this research was to analyze the Bsm I polymorphism of the VDR gene in a sample of 133 postmenopausal women distributed in three groups: 54 with osteoporosis, 24 with osteopenia and 55 normal controls for the disease. 28 of the women with osteoporosis presented the BB genotype, which is related in other countries to bone mineral density decrease, 20 had the Bb genotype, and 6 the bb genotype.

The Duchenne/Becker Muscular Dystrophy (DMD/BMD) is an X linked recessive lethal disease. The female carrier will transmit the disease gene to half of her sons and half of her daughters; half of the daughters will be carriers, while half will be normal. Half of the sons will be normal and, on average, half will have the disease.
