Human parvovirus B19 (B19V) causes a number of skin exanthemas and has been related to both cutaneous and systemic diseases. Tropism of the virus for the rapidly proliferating erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow and fetal liver explains the pathogenesis of anemia and fetal hydrops. The cutaneous lesions of erythema infectiosum and other B19V-related exanthemas have been attributed to the deposition of immune complexes in the skin.

A young woman presented with marked alterations in the ECG without cardiological symptoms or evidence of structural heart disease after further evaluation. There was evidence of vitamin deficiency and the ECG normalized after 10 days of treatment with vitamins. Similar alterations have been described in several experimental studies with rats, but this is the first case reported in humans.

Aims: The aim of this study was to analyze early and late outcome of the first vascular accesses performed in the HGUGM of Madrid between 1992 and 1997, comparing the results in patients older and younger than 65 years.

Methods: Retrospective study. All the vascular accesses performed in patients without previous permanent angioaccess between January 1992 and March 1997 were studied.
