The legacy of the theory of mental symptoms developed by German Berrios and the seminal work of Hughlings Jackson and Kurt Goldstein can contribute to this difficult task.

Ammoniacal thiosulfate has been used lately as an alternative lixiviant for leaching gold from sulfides ores which are not amenable for cyanidation. However, the oxidation of the sulfide minerals generates products that inhibit the dissolution of gold and can promote the degradation of the leaching solution. The complexity of the ammoniacal thiosulfate leaching system has prevented the unification and clarification of the mechanisms of oxidation of sulfide ores used for gold extraction.

Background: Last responders constitute an occupational category that includes all those that are involved in the postmortem care of deceased persons and their families. Last responders are exposed to several categories of work-related stressors that affect their health and well-being. COVID-19 exacerbated these stressors.

Exchange bias coupling and bipolar resistive switching at room temperature on GaSb/Mn multilayers for resistive memories applications.

This work present structural, morphological, magnetic, and electrical properties of GaSb/Mn multilayer deposited via DC magnetron sputtering at room temperature and at 423 K. The samples are characterized by forming layers of 3, 6 and 12 periods of the GaSb/Mn structure. Through XRD patterns, it was possible to stablish the formation of GaSb, MnGa, and MnSb phases.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Solid Organ Transplant Recipients: A Case-Control Study.

BACKGROUND It is unclear whether solid organ transplant (SOT) patients have more severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and worse outcome than the general population. MATERIAL AND METHODS We conducted a case-control study on 32 SOT recipients and 84 non-SOT controls matched for age and sex admitted for confirmed COVID-19. The primary endpoint was in-hospital all-cause mortality rate.

Corrosion assessment of metals in bioethanol-gasoline blends using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.

Due to the increased use of environmentally friendly fuels, it becomes imperative to evaluate the impact of biofuels on the performance of materials used in auto parts. The corrosive effects of biofuels are important in terms of durability of auto-parts since there is an evidence of the increasing deterioration in automobile parts with the long-term use of biofuels. In this research, the behavior of metals, used in the manufacturing of auto parts, in pure bioethanol (E100) and bioethanol-gasoline blends with 30% (E30), 50% (E50), and 85% (E85) of ethanol content were evaluated.

Pilot of a Community Health Worker Video Intervention for Immigrant Day Laborers at Occupational Health Risk.

Immigrant day laborers suffer from disproportionate occupational health risks from hazardous reconstruction jobs after natural disasters. We conducted a randomized controlled trial of a short-video educational intervention to improve safety knowledge and intent to engage in safety preventive behaviors among 98 Hispanic day laborers (49 randomized to video and 49 control). The short video featured a male and a female who narrated 3 stories of day laborers who were injured while doing construction work in post-Katrina New Orleans.

The effect of Mn2Sb2 and Mn2Sb secondary phases on magnetism in (GaMn)Sb thin films.

In this work, a detailed study of structural, electrical and magnetic characterization of (GaMn)Sb diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMS) is presented. (GaMn)Sb thin films were grown by DC magnetron co-sputtering method as an innovative procedure to fabricate III-V DMS. The presence of unusual Mn2Sb2 and Mn2Sb secondary phases, induced by substrate temperature and deposition time, were revealed through XRD measurements.

Evidence-based practice in Chile.

Over the past few decades, the emergence of evidence-based practice medicine (EBP) has allowed a change in the integration of knowledge with policy making and health service development, and Chile has been influenced by EBP with no exemption. In this paper, we will describe the impact of the EBP model at different levels of the Chilean health system, including the development of national clinical guidelines, medical training and in-patient involvement in health awareness.

Predictors of damage accrual in systemic lupus erythematosus: a longitudinal observational study with focus on neuropsychological factors and anti-neuronal antibodies.

Objective: Central nervous system disease occurs in over 20% of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) resulting in major morbidity and damage. Cognitive dysfunction is common in SLE, but the cause remains uncertain and treatment options are limited. This study explores the influence of clinical, neuropsychological factors and anti-neuronal antibodies on lupus damage accrual.

Evaluation of the Stability of Polymeric Materials Exposed to Palm Biodiesel and Biodiesel⁻Organic Acid Blends.

The aim of the present work is to evaluate the impact of pure palm biodiesel fuel (B100) and biodiesel blends with 0.32% oleic, palmitic, acetic, myristic, and stearic acids on the properties of some polymeric materials used commonly in the manufacture of auto parts such as the polyamide 66 (PA66), polyoxymethylene (POM), and high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The effects of the B100 and B100⁻acid blends on polymeric materials were examined by comparing changes in the gain/loss of mass and by measuring the hardness, the impact strength, and the tensile strength of the materials at the end of the exposure.

Purpose: To report the transient resurgence of symptomatic silicone oil droplets following intravitreal bevacizumab injections.

Observations: We report seven patients presenting with silicone oil droplets following intravitreal bevacizumab injections. These were the first cases noted in 10 years using the same supplier of preloaded syringes in an estimated 90,413 injections performed by 7 physicians.

Influence of Surface Treatment on Magnetic Properties of Fe3O4 Nanoparticles Synthesized by Electrochemical Method.

The changes of magnetic properties in magnetite nanoparticles during two different stabilization processes were investigated. Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) were obtained by electrochemical synthesis from two kinds of salts: (CH3)4NCl and NaCl. After that, two methods-steric and electrostatic-were used to stabilize MNPs with oleic acid (OA) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH), respectively.

Integration of mental health into primary care: a Chilean perspective on a global challenge.

Chile has been successful in integrating mental health and primary care. This paper describes the Chilean mental health service in primary care and the experience of scaling up a depression treatment programme. A new mental health plan is due to be introduced in 2016.

Mental health legislation in Chile.

Chile does not have a mental health law or act, and no single legal body protecting those deemed to be afflicted by a mental disorder, setting standards of care and protecting and promoting their rights. Instead, pieces of mental health legislation are scattered about in different legal and administrative documents, including the country's Constitution, Health Code, Criminal Code and Civil Code. Remarkably, mental health legislation was the object of virtually no change or amendment from the middle of the 19th century until the year 2001.
