Sewage sludge contains plant nutrients and organic matter in its composition, making it a potential partial substitute for mineral fertilizers if it meets environmental, agronomic, and sanitary standards. The objective was to evaluate the content of nutrients and heavy metals in the sludge generated in four wastewater treatment stations (WWTPs) in Rio de Janeiro state and assess its potential value and usefulness. The samples of 19 batches from the WTTPs Alegria, Barra da Tijuca, Ilha do Governador, and Sarapuí were analyzed.

Objective: We assessed knowledge and practices regarding immunization guidelines and the Florida Certificate of Immunization (DH-680) based on FL-DOH and CDC recommendations, to identify the cause of the increasing number of erroneously issued temporary medical exemptions (TME) among selected health care providers in Miami-Dade County Florida.

Methodology: After reviewing immunization certificates from all public schools, a list of physicians who improperly issued 3 or more TMEs, defined as one given to a child who was up to date for their kindergarten and seventh grade requirements, was compiled. The DOH-Miami-Dade developed educational materials and questionnaires, and conducted face-to-face interviews and interventions during site visits to these providers (n=134).

Problem: Recurrent reproductive failure (RRF) has been associated with expansion of circulating NK cells, key cells for maternal tolerance, decidual vasculogenesis and embryo growth. This study reports our experience in intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) therapy of a large cohort of women with RRF with expanded circulating NK and/or NKT-like cells (blood NKT cells are a heterogeneous subset of T cells that share properties of both T cells and NK cells).

Method Of Study: Observational study of RRF women with NK or NKT-like expansion (>12% or 10% cutoff levels of total lymphocytes, respectively), treated with IVIg for the next gestation.

Fischer carbene complexes react with 4-unsubstituted 1-amino-1,3-dienes to give different carbocyclization products depending on the nature of the carbene complex and on the substitution pattern of the aminodiene. Thus, the reaction of arylcarbene chromium complexes and 1-aminodienes diastereoselectively affords cyclopropane derivatives by means of a formal [2+1] carbocyclization reaction. In particular, pentacarbonyl[(2-furyl)(methoxy)methylene]chromium complex furnishes formal [4+1] carbocyclization products.

Automotive side impacts are a leading cause of injuries to the pubic symphysis, yet the mechanisms of those injuries have not been clearly established. Previous mechanical testing of isolated symphyses revealed increased joint laxity following drop tower lateral impacts to isolated pelvic bone structures, which suggested that the joints were damaged by excessive stresses and/or deformations during the impact tests. In the present study, a finite element (FE) model of a female pelvis including a previously validated symphysis sub-model was developed from computed tomography data.

Three-dimensional finite element (FE) models of human pubic symphyses were constructed from computed tomography image data of one male and one female cadaver pelvis. The pubic bones, interpubic fibrocartilaginous disc and four pubic ligaments were segmented semi-automatically and meshed with hexahedral elements using automatic mesh generation schemes. A two-term viscoelastic Prony series, determined by curve fitting results of compressive creep experiments, was used to model the rate-dependent effects of the interpubic disc and the pubic ligaments.

beta-Substituted alkenylcarbene complexes react with methyl ketone lithium enolates to give different carbocyclization products depending on the structure of the lithium enolate, on the metal of the carbene complex, and on the reaction media. Thus, the reactions of aryl and alkyl methyl ketone lithium enolates with beta-substituted alkenyl chromium and tungsten carbene complexes in diethyl ether afford 1,3-cyclopentanediol derivatives derived from a formal [2+2+1] carbocyclization reaction. However, the lithium enolates of acetone and tungsten complexes furnish formal [3+2+2] carbocyclization products.

While fracture type has been correlated with impact direction and femoral orientation, actual contact pressures in the hip joint have not been quantified for lateral loading conditions.
