Article Synopsis
  • * Out of 134 children, 42% experienced haematological issues, with other complications occurring less frequently; more than half of the patients did not have any thrombotic events.
  • * Key findings indicated that children with certain antibody types, specifically IgG aβ2GPI, those diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), and those positive for Lupus Anticoagulant (LA), were at a higher risk for developing these blood-related manifestations.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aims to highlight the importance of measuring adenosine deaminase 2 (ADA2) enzyme activity in diagnosing suspected ADA2 deficiency (DADA2).
  • - In a review of 20 patients, DADA2 was confirmed in three cases through low ADA2 activity and genetic mutations, while it was ruled out in two patients with uncertain genetic variants.
  • - The findings suggest that reduced ADA2 activity is a key indicator for diagnosing DADA2, especially for individuals with ambiguous genetic results.

Objective: To identify the variables associated with the development of non-criteria manifestations in the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPLs) in a paediatric cohort.

Methods: Multicentric historical cohort study of children under the age of 18 years to determine thrombotic events (TEs) and non-criteria manifestations in the presence of aPL.

Results: Eighty-two children were included; 8.

Introduction: Kawasaki disease (KD) is a multisystem vasculitis associated with coronary artery abnormalities. Infections could be a trigger of the inflammation. The main aim of this study was to describe the presence of infections in children with KD, and to analyse the clinical characteristics and the presence of coronary abnormalities in these cases.

Objective: Localized scleroderma is a skin fibrosing disorder that, if untreated, may result in severe disability. The purpose of this systematic review is to compare the present evidence concerning the effectiveness of Methotrexate versus phototherapy, alone or associated with Psoralen, in childhood localized scleroderma.

Method: A systematic search between January 1996 and May 2017 was performed to identify studies investigating the efficacy of Methotrexate (MTX) or phototherapy (UVA) for treating localized scleroderma with onset ≤18 years.

Background: Adult patients receiving anti-TNFα drugs are at increased risk of tuberculosis (TB), but studies in pediatric populations are limited, and the best strategy for latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) screening in this population remains controversial. We describe the prevalence of LTBI prior to anti-TNFα therapy and the long-term follow-up after biological treatment initiation in a cohort of children and adolescents.

Methods: Cohort observational study in children and adolescents receiving anti-TNFα agents in a tertiary-care pediatric hospital.
