Introduction: In recent years, as novel micromobility vehicles (MMVs) have hit the market and rapidly gained popularity, new challenges in road safety have also arisen. There is an urgent need for validated models that comprehensively describe the behavior of such novel MMVs. This study aims to compare the longitudinal and lateral control of bicycles and e-scooters in a collision-avoidance scenario from a top-down perspective, and to propose appropriate quantitative models for parameterizing and predicting the trajectories of the avoidance-braking and steering-maneuvers.

Introduction: Aggressive driving has been associated as one of the causes for crashes, sometimes with very serious consequences. The objective of this study is to investigate the possibility of identifying aggressive driving in car-following situations on motorways by simple jerk metrics derived from naturalistic data.

Method: We investigate two jerk metrics, one for large positive jerk and the other for large negative jerk, when drivers are operating the gas and brake pedal, respectively.

Cyclists and pedestrians account for a significant share of fatalities and serious injuries in the road transport system. In order to protect them, advanced driver assistance systems are being developed and introduced to the market, including autonomous emergency braking and steering systems (AEBSS) that autonomously perform braking or an evasive manoeuvre by steering in case of a pending collision, in order to avoid the collision or mitigate its severity. This study proposes a new prospective framework for quantifying safety benefit of AEBSS for the protection of cyclists and pedestrians in terms of saved lives and reduction in the number of people suffering serious injuries.
