This paper demonstrates, for the first time, the stability of synthetic diamond as a passive layer within neural implants. Leveraging the exceptional biocompatibility of intrinsic nanocrystalline diamond, a comprehensive review of material aging analysis in the context of in-vivo implants is provided. This work is based on electric impedance monitoring through the formulation of an analytical model that scrutinizes essential parameters such as the deposited metal resistivity, insulation between conductors, changes in electrode geometry, and leakage currents.

Natural history of bicuspid aortic valves and ascending aortic aneurysms: Aortic center experience.

Cigarette smoking among those with mental disorders in the US population: 2012-2013 update.

Background: Recent nationally representative estimates from the USA suggest the prevalence of cigarette smoking continues to be much higher among those with mental disorders compared with those without; however, prevalence estimates for current cigarette use by specific diagnoses are outdated.

Methods: We analysed data from the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions III (2012-2013). We estimated the prevalence of lifetime and past-year smoking, lifetime and past-year daily smoking, and lifetime smoking cessation among ever smokers (ie, the quit ratio) among those with common mood, anxiety and substance use disorders in comparison to those without these disorders.

Long-term mortality of patients admitted to the intensive care unit for gastrointestinal bleeding.

Objectives: Long-term mortality data for gastrointestinal (GI) bleeders is scarce in the literature. The aim of this prospective study was to determine the long-term mortality of patients admitted to two intensive care units with a primary diagnosis of GI bleeding.

Methods: The charts of patients admitted to the medical intensive care unit (MICU) with GI bleeding were reviewed and the data of the patients' first day in the MICU was used to calculate APACHE III and Charlson scores.
