Article Synopsis
  • Researchers need to find out what factors might put babies at risk of being taken out of their homes, especially due to their parents' substance use.
  • In a study with 1,808 parent-baby pairs, most of the parents were Non-Hispanic White, and many babies were exposed to drugs like alcohol and opioids before birth.
  • The study found that many babies with drug exposure didn't get to go home with their parents, and understanding how substance use affects placement decisions can help improve support for families in need.

Limited research has examined a comprehensive set of predictors when evaluating discharge placement decisions for infants exposed to substances prenatally. Using a previously validated medical record data extraction tool, the current study examined prenatal substance exposure, infant intervention (i.e.

Background And Objectives: Research has shown that people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) engage in increased rates of substance use, which has a number of potential negative health outcomes. Increased legalization of cannabis is likely to further increase the availability and use of cannabis in this population. Efforts have been made to integrate screening and intervention resources as part of an individual's routine healthcare visits.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how children with ADHD perform on visuospatial working memory (VS-WM) tasks compared to typically developing (TD) children, particularly looking at the impact of varying task parameters.
  • - Results show that both groups struggle with longer paths, but TD children are more affected by increasing path crossings compared to those with ADHD.
  • - The findings suggest that children use dynamic rehearsal strategies for VS information and indicate that ADHD-related deficits are particularly problematic when tasks involve long path lengths.

Article Synopsis
  • Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) link to various negative physical and mental health issues, prompting the development of the ACE-International Questionnaire (ACE-IQ) to assess these experiences globally.
  • The study used principal components analyses (PCA) to evaluate the ACE-IQ's structure, uncovering a two-component structure based on World Health Organization definitions and a six-component structure when analyzing individual items.
  • Results emphasize the need for a theoretical foundation when evaluating these measures and suggest the importance of distinguishing between different types of ACEs for research and practice.

Substance use motives refer to an individual's reasons for engaging in substance use. Although the respective alcohol and cannabis literatures have linked specific substance-use motives to indices of use, less is known about motives in concurrent users, particularly examination of cross-motives (e.g.

Socioeconomic status (SES) and risk perceptions are indicative of cannabis use and subjective social status (SSS) may have utility in predicting cannabis use. This work examined relations between these indicators of cannabis use and use in a Hispanic/Latinx sample. Results found negative relations between risk perceptions and cannabis use.

Common factors are increasingly used to model the structure of psychopathology (""), personality (General Factor of Personality [GFP]), pathological personality (General Factor of Pathological Personality [GFPP]), and intelligence (""). Using 4 waves spanning ages 18-29 in a cohort of college students (baseline = 489), this study used indicators of psychopathology, personality, pathological personality, and cognitive functioning to compare models that included Cognitive Functioning, , GFP, GFPP, and a "Big Everything" factor (which included cross-domain measures as indicators). GFP, GFPP, and exhibited substantial overlap, and the Big Everything factor accounted for considerable variance in psychopathology, personality, and pathological personality indicators.

Children with internalizing and externalizing difficulties are at risk for long-term negative effects in adulthood and are impacted by several caregiver factors. Findings of the present study are consistent with previous studies that found direct associations between caregiver victimization history (e.g.
