Aim: Resilience is a broad and dynamic concept that can be seen as being constituted by the combination of internal factors, for example, temperament profiles, and external factors, for example, social support. This paper aimed to identify temperament profiles in help-seeking youth exposed to adverse childhood experiences, and to investigate whether temperament (putative internal protective factor) interacts with social schemas (as proxy for the putative external protective factor social support) such that their combination is associated with (a) reduced mental health problems and (b) attenuated decrease in positive affect following daily life stressors.

Methods: Self-report questionnaires were used to measure temperament, social schemas and mental health problems.

Illicit drugs are harmful substances, threatening both health and safety of societies in all corners of the world. Several policies have been developed over time to deal with this illicit drug problem, including supply reduction and harm reduction policies. Both policies require on-site detection tools to succeed, i.

Purpose: Treatment of hyperthyroidism caused by autonomously functioning thyroid nodules (AFTN) with I often leads to undesirable hypothyroidism. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has emerged as a promising alternative. This retrospective analysis aimed to examine the efficacy of, and postprocedural hypothyroidism after, RFA for AFTN.

Four-dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) is one of the preoperative imaging modalities that can be used to localize a parathyroid adenoma in primary hyperparathyroidism patients however, sensitivity differs in literature and could be improved especially for multiglandular hyperplasia or double adenomas. The most robust feature on the 4DCT for the differentiation between parathyroid adenoma and thyroid gland tissue is arterial enhancement. To make this better visible, we have developed a subtraction map that shows arterial enhancement as a color scale to increase sensitivity for 4DCT.

Abdominal adhesions present a diagnostic challenge, and classic imaging modalities can miss their presence. Cine-MRI, which records visceral sliding during patient-controlled breathing, has proven useful in detecting and mapping adhesions. However, patient movements can affect the accuracy of these images, despite there being no standardized algorithm for defining sufficiently high-quality images.

Cine-MRI for adhesion detection is a promising novel modality that can help the large group of patients developing pain after abdominal surgery. Few studies into its diagnostic accuracy are available, and none address observer variability. This retrospective study explores the inter- and intra-observer variability, diagnostic accuracy, and the effect of experience.

Objective: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is increasingly considered the prime option for treating symptomatic, benign, non-functioning thyroid nodules (NFTN). However, little is known about the degree of operator experience required to achieve optimal results. This study describes the RFA learning curve of a single-center team.

Background: Recently, a new model has been proposed to assess hydration in patients by measurement of total body electrical resistance (TBER), with results expressed in ohm rather than in liter body water. According to this approach, hydration is considered to be normal if TBER is within the normal range. As TBER is inversely related to the size of the limb muscle compartment, this relationship can be used to calculate the patient-specific TBER normal value (TBER).

Background: Hyperactive thyroid nodules (HTN) are usually treated with radioactive iodine (RAI). However, as RAI is associated with a 30-60% long-term risk of permanent hypothyroidism, radiofrequency ablation (RFA) may be a good alternative. Primary aim of this study was to assess the percentage of patients achieving euthyroidism after RFA.

Objectives: Chronic abdominal pain develops in 11-20% of patients undergoing abdominal surgery, partly owing to post-operative adhesions. In this study we evaluate results of a novel diagnostic and therapeutic approach for pain associated with adhesions.

Methods: Prospective cohort study including patients with a history of abdominal surgery referred to the outpatient clinic of a tertiary referral center for the evaluation of chronic abdominal pain.

Objective: A non-invasive diagnostic technique for abdominal adhesions is not currently available. Capture of abdominal motion due to respiration in cine-MRI has shown promise, but is difficult to interpret. This article explores the value of a complimentary diagnostic aid to facilitate the non-invasive detection of abdominal adhesions using cine-MRI.

The aim of this multicentre study was to compare T1 with T2 weighted MRI scans of the labyrinth after meningitis and to investigate whether waiting with scanning improved the reliability of diagnosing an ongoing process such as cochlear osteogenesis. Forty-five patients were included who suffered from meningitis induced hearing loss (radiological imaging <1 year after meningitis). Twenty-one gadolinium enhanced T1 and 45 T2 weighted MRI scans were scored by two radiologists regarding the condition of the labyrinth.

A case of right middle lobe torsion occurring after a right upper lobectomy is described. HR-CT angiography was successful in identifying the obstructed right middle lobe bronchus and the avascular nature of the infected and displaced right middle lobe. This detailed information, obtainable from present day multislice HR-CT scanners with the right CT protocols, seems to diminish the need for further confirmation by other methods.

Background: Tumor-induced osteomalacia is a rare paraneoplastic syndrome characterized by hypophosphatemia, renal phosphate wasting, suppressed 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D production, and osteomalacia. It is caused by a usually benign mesenchymal tumor producing fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23). Surgical excision of the tumor is the first choice of treatment because complete resection is curative.
