Resistin plays an important role in the pathophysiology of obesity-mediated insulin resistance in mice. However, the biology of resistin in humans is quite different from that in rodents. Therefore, the association between resistin and insulin resistance remains unclear in humans.

Background: Although vasospastic angina (VSA) is known to be caused by coronary artery spasm, no study has fully elucidated the exact underlying mechanism. Moreover, in order to confirm VSA, patients should undergo invasive coronary angiography with spasm provocation test. Herein, we investigated the pathophysiology of VSA using peripheral blood-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and developed an ex vivo diagnostic method for VSA.

Objective: One of the suggested mechanisms of obesity-induced insulin resistance is mitochondrial dysfunction in target tissues such as skeletal muscle. In our study, we examined whether resistin, an adipokine associated with obesity-mediated insulin resistance, induced metabolic disorders by impairing mitochondrial homeostasis.

Methods: The morphology and function of mitochondria of skeletal muscle were examined in resistin-knockout and humanized resistin mice that were subjected to high-fat diet for 3 months.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading causes of morbidity and death globally. In particular, a heart failure remains a major problem that contributes to global mortality. Considerable advancements have been made in conventional pharmacological therapies and coronary intervention surgery for cardiac disorder treatment.

Тhe most pressing issue in generating induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) in clinical practice is the cell source. Compared to human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs), which have been widely used, human peripheral blood could be a more easily obtainable alternative. However, iPSCs generated from fresh peripheral blood require inconvenient specific methods including isolation.

Many studies have shown the existence of cardiac stem cells in the myocardium and epicardial progenitor cells in the epicardium. However, the characteristics of stem cells in the endocardium has not been fully elucidated. In this study, we investigated the origin of newly identified cells in the blood and their therapeutic potential.

Sildenafil is known to reduce cardiac hypertrophy through cGMP-dependent protein kinase (cGK) activation. Studies have demonstrated that cGK has a central switching role in modulating vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) phenotype in response to vascular injury. Here, we aimed to examine the effects of cGK activation by sildenafil on neointimal formation and platelet aggregation.

The rice blast pathogen is a global threat to rice production. Here we characterized gene () that belongs to the Rho GTPase family, using a deletion mutant. This mutant exhibited no defects in conidiation and germination but developed only 6% of appressoria in response to a hydrophobic surface when compared to the wild-type progenitor.

is a necrotrophic pathogen causing a major problem in the export and post-harvest of strawberries. Inappropriate use of fungicides leads to resistance among fungal pathogens. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the sensitivity of to various classes of fungicide and to determine the effectiveness of different concentrations of commonly used fungicides.

Collectotrichum acutatum is a fungal plant pathogen that causes pre- and post-harvest anthracnose on a wide range of plants worldwide. The complete mitochondrial genome of C. acutatum has been determined for the first time.

Emerging studies suggested that murine podoplanin-positive monocytes (PPMs) are involved in lymphangiogenesis. The goal of this study was to demonstrate the therapeutic lymphangiogenesis of human PPMs by the interaction with platelets. Aggregation culture of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) resulted in cellular aggregates termed hematospheres.

Human resistin is a cytokine that induces low-grade inflammation by stimulating monocytes. Resistin-mediated chronic inflammation can lead to obesity, atherosclerosis, and other cardiometabolic diseases. Nevertheless, the receptor for human resistin has not been clarified.

In patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), stem cells can serve as therapeutic agents to restore or regenerate injured nervous system. Here, we differentiated two types of stem cells; mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs) and protein-based iPS cells (P-iPSCs) generated by non-viral methods, into midbrain dopaminergic (mDA) neurons, and then compared the efficiency of DA neuron differentiation from these two cell types. In the undifferentiated stage, P-iPSCs expressed pluripotency markers as ES cells did, indicating that protein-based reprogramming was stable and authentic.

Strategy to differentiate stem cells into insulin producing cells (IPCs) in vitro has been a promising one to get cell source of β-cell replacement therapy for diabetes. It has been suggested that islets and neurons share features and nestin-positive cells could differentiate into IPCs. We have recently developed a three-dimensional culture system using human peripheral blood cells named as blood-born hematosphere (BBHS).

The cytokine inducible SH2-domain protein (CISH) is a well-known STAT5 target gene, but its role in the immune system remains uncertain. In this study, we found that CISH is predominantly induced during dendritic cell (DC) development from mouse bone marrow (BM) cells and plays a crucial role in type 1 DC development and DC-mediated CTL activation. CISH knockdown reduced the expression of MHC class I, co-stimulatory molecules and pro-inflammatory cytokines in BMDCs.
