Background: The association between stress-induced hyperglycaemia (SIH) and increased infection rates in hospitalised subjects is well-known. It is less clear if SIH at admission independently drives new-onset infections. We assessed the relationship between early exposure at admission to both the Stress Hyperglycaemia Ratio (SHR) and Blood Glucose (BG) with Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia (HAP).

Considering that fundoplication rebuilds the structural integrity of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the authors focused on searching for objective and quantitative predictors for the resolution of symptoms based on the anatomical issues and whether an antireflux barrier can be well established or not.
Materials And Methods: The authors reviewed the prospectively collected data of 266 patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) who had undergone laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication (LNF).
Rationale: Desmoid fibromatosis is a rare benign tumor, but due to its rarity and diverse clinical course, treatment guidelines have not been established. However, since a good prognosis can be expected, an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment are required. We describe a rare case of desmoid fibromatosis on young female that presented as huge abdominal mass.

Here, we compared the operative convenience and postoperative outcomes between SILDG and NASILDG.
Materials And Methods: A needle grasper was inserted into the right upper abdomen and used in the NASILDG.
Purpose: Tegafur/gimeracil/oteracil (S-1) and capecitabine plus oxaliplatin (CAPOX) are standard adjuvant chemotherapies (ACs) administered after gastrectomy to patients with stage II or III gastric cancer. However, the efficacy of AC in elderly patients remains unclear. The objective of this retrospective multicenter cohort study was to compare the efficacies of S-1 and CAPOX AC in patients aged ≥70 years.

Methods: This study enrolled 110 patients with acute appendicitis without periappendiceal abscess, diagnosed using computed tomography, who were randomized to the SILA (n = 54) and NASILA groups (n = 56) between December 2017 and August 2018 (6 patients withdrawn). The NASILA technique entailed a small umbilical incision for the glove port (equivalent to that for a 12-mm trocar), and a 2.
Background: Few studies have presented evidence pertaining to the adequate minimum number of adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) cycles required to achieve an oncologic benefit for gastric cancer.
Methods: From January 2012 to December 2013, data from patients who underwent curative radical gastrectomy and consequently received AC for pathologic stage 2 or 3 gastric cancer at 27 institutions in South Korea were analyzed.
Results: The study enrolled 925 patients, 661 patients (71.
Purpose: Quality of life (QOL) has become important in the trend of emphasizing patient satisfaction. This study aimed to evaluate the QOL in patients who underwent laparoscopic or robotic gastrectomy for gastric cancer.
Methods: A prospective trial was performed involving patients who underwent laparoscopic or robotic gastrectomy for primary gastric cancer at 11 hospitals in Korea.
Although high-risk gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) frequently recur, even after a complete resection and imatinib therapy, local recurrence at the suture line after complete resection is rare. The present case was an 88-year-old woman who was initially diagnosed with high-risk GIST without a distant metastasis. She underwent a complete surgical resection of the lesion and received adjuvant imatinib therapy for 18 months, which was discontinued due to severe drug-induced anemia.

Purpose: To compare long-term disease-free survival (DFS) between patients receiving tegafur/gimeracil/oteracil (S-1) or capecitabine plus oxaliplatin (CAPOX) adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) for gastric cancer (GC).
Materials And Methods: This retrospective multicenter observational study enrolled 983 patients who underwent curative gastrectomy with consecutive AC with S-1 or CAPOX for stage II or III GC at 27 hospitals in Korea between February 2012 and December 2013. We conducted propensity score matching to reduce selection bias.
Purpose: Laparoscopic antireflux surgery is not widely used in Korea, but published data suggest that its results are comparable to those of Western countries. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical characteristics, medical utilization, and medical costs of antireflux surgery and proton pump inhibitor (PPI) treatments.
Methods: We used Korean patients who underwent fundoplication (n = 342, surgery group) and a 25% random sample of all patients diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) who were prescribed PPIs for more than 12 weeks (n = 130,987, medication group) between 2007 to 2016.
Purpose: The objective of the present retrospective analysis was to describe the experience of intraperitoneal (IP) paclitaxel and systemic chemotherapy in patients with peritoneal metastasis (PM) of advanced gastric cancer (AGC) in a multicenter setting in Korea.
Materials And Methods: The medical records of patients with AGC, who were diagnosed with PM between January 2015 and December 2018, were reviewed. IP catheter was placed in the pouch of Douglas and was used for the administration of IP paclitaxel chemotherapy.
Background/aims: The economic burden for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) has recently increased in Asian countries. This study investigates the cost-effectiveness between anti-reflux surgery and medication, with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for GERD in Korea.
Methods: We used a decision tree and Markov model to obtain the costs and quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) of the surgical and medical strategies.
Background: Laparoscopic distal gastrectomy for early gastric cancer has been widely accepted, but laparoscopic total gastrectomy has still not gained popularity because of technical difficulty and unsolved safety issue. We conducted a single-arm multicenter phase II clinical trial to evaluate the safety and the feasibility of laparoscopic total gastrectomy for clinical stage I proximal gastric cancer in terms of postoperative morbidity and mortality in Korea. The secondary endpoint of this trial was comparison of surgical outcomes among the groups that received different methods of esophagojejunostomy (EJ).
