Article Synopsis
  • This study compares outcomes of open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) for tibial plateau fractures in elderly patients (60+) and younger patients (<60) to evaluate treatment effectiveness.
  • The researchers analyzed data from 341 patients and found that while the elderly group had a higher rate of diabetes, there were no significant differences in complications, such as post-traumatic arthritis or non-union, between the two age groups.
  • The study concluded that age alone is not a predictor of treatment failure, while specific fracture types and malreduction are associated with worse outcomes.
