Backgruound: This study aimed to examine trends in the prevalence, incidence, metabolic characteristics, and management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) among young adults in South Korea.
Methods: Young adults with T2DM were defined as individuals aged 19 to 39 years who met the diagnostic criteria for T2DM. Data from the Korean National Health Insurance Service-Customized Database (2010-2020, n=225,497-372,726) were analyzed to evaluate trends in T2DM prevalence, incidence, metabolic profiles, comorbidities, and antidiabetic drug prescription.
Background: This study retrospectively analyzed the prognostic impact of transfusion burden in patients with lower-risk myelodysplastic syndrome (LR-MDS) and the outcomes of each treatment option.
Methods: Data on 168 patients with LR-MDS between July 2011 and April 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. Non-transfusion dependent (NTD) was defined as no transfusion history in a period of 16 weeks, low transfusion burden (LTB) as receiving 3 - 7 red blood cell (RBC) units in a period of 16 weeks, and high transfusion burden (HTB) as receiving ≥ 8 RBC units in a period of 16 weeks.
Purpose: The present study aimed to examine (a) how fatigue severity changes during the course of chemotherapy in patients with hematologic cancer and (b) whether cytokines (IL-1 alpha, IL-1 beta, IL-6) are associated with fatigue change after controlling for demographic and clinical factors (e.g., hemoglobin/hematocrit, medications, comorbid conditions).

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) affects over 10% of all pregnancies, both in Korea and worldwide. GDM not only increases the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes such as preeclampsia, preterm birth, macrosomia, neonatal hypoglycemia, and shoulder dystocia, but it also significantly increases the risk of developing postpartum type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease in the mother. Additionally, GDM is linked to a higher risk of childhood obesity and diabetes in offspring, as well as neurodevelopmental disorders, including autistic spectrum disorder.

Promoting access to and excellence in hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) by collecting and disseminating data on global HCT activities is one of the principal activities of the Worldwide Network for Blood and Marrow Transplantation, a non-governmental organization in working relations with the World Health Organization. HCT activities are recorded annually by member societies, national registries and individual centers including indication, donor type (allogeneic/autologous), donor match and stem cell source (bone marrow/peripheral blood stem cells/cord blood). In 2018, 1,768 HCT teams in 89 countries (6 World Health Organization regions) reported 93,105 (48,680 autologous and 44,425 allogeneic) HCT.
