Infant and parent heart rates during a babywearing procedure: Evidence for autonomic coregulation.

Babywearing is the practice of carrying an infant in a baby carrier, which may provide an inexpensive, nonpharmacological intervention for the parent-infant dyads to handle mental stressors, such as pain and anxiety, especially among vulnerable infants. This study investigated the influence of babywearing on parent-infant autonomic coregulation based on the changes in the HR of mother-infant and father-infant dyads for infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS). Guided by the Calming Cycle Theory as the framework, the correlation between parent HR and infant HR and the difference in the mother-infant dyad (n = 17) compared to the father-infant dyad (n = 8) were examined.

Wage Disparities across Immigrant Generations: Education, Segregation, or Unequal Pay?

Immigrants and their native-born children often face considerable wage penalties relative to natives, but less is known about whether this inequality arises through differences in educational qualifications, segregation across occupations and establishments, or unequal pay for the same work. Using linked employer-employee data from Norway, the authors ask whether immigrant-native wage disparities 1) reflect differences in detailed educational qualifications, labor market segregation, or within-job pay differences; 2) differ by immigrant generation; and 3) vary across different segments of the labor market. They find that immigrant-native wage disparities primarily reflect sorting into lower-paying jobs, and that wage disadvantages are considerably reduced across immigrant generations.

Because of the structural and optical properties, they not only play critical roles as an essential component in natural systems but also have attracted much attention as a high value specialty chemical in various fields, including renewable energy, cosmetics, medicines, and foods. However, their commercial application seems to be still limited because the market price of porphyrins and phycobilins is generally expensive to apply them easily.

Porphyran, a polysaccharide composed of red algae, is a source of a multifunctional oligosaccharide material and raw biomass with various physiological activities. The glycolysis of porphyrans into oligosaccharides through various porphyranases is an approach for obtaining high-quality and promising alternative resources. In this study, porphyran was extracted from Porphyra yezoensis and used as a research substrate.

Von Willebrand factor (vWF), a large multimeric glycoprotein present in blood plasma, is a blood protein of the coagulation system. It is defective in von Willebrand disease and is involved in a large number of other diseases, including thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura-hemolytic uremic syndrome and heyde's syndrome. We have developed a line of transgenic swine harboring recombinant human von Willebrand factor (rhvWF) cDNA through microinjection of fertilized one-cell pig zygotes.

We have developed a line of transgenic swine harboring recombinant human erythropoietin through microinjection into fertilized one cell pig zygotes. Milk from generations F1 and F2 transgenic females was analyzed, and hEPO was detected in milk from all lactating females at concentrations of approximately 877.9+/-92.

Development and validation study of the breast cancer risk appraisal for Korean women.

The purpose of the present study was to develop and validate breast cancer risk factors, which can be used to identify women who are at a high risk of developing breast cancer. Fourteen risk factors for breast cancer were identified from extensive literature reviews and in consultation with a panel of experts. A case-control study was conducted, which aimed to validate these 14 risk factors.
