The JS7 strain, isolated from an old forest tree, produces extracellular enzymes that decolorize synthetic and natural melanin from human hair. Phylogenetic analysis based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequence indicated that JS7 belongs to the genus Irpex.
