Reflection-type photoplethysmography (PPG) pulse sensors used in wearable smart watches, true wireless stereo, etc., have been recently considered a key component for monitoring biological signals such as heart rate, SPO, and blood pressure. Typically, the optical front end (OFE) of these PPG sensors is heterogeneously configured and packaged with light sources and receiver chips.

Here, we develop a flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) with a composite structure consisting of multiple polyimide and copper layers and demonstrate it as a novel acoustic matching layer. With a flexible substrate and robust ACF bonding, the FPCB not only serves as an acoustic matching layer between piezoelectric elements and the surrounding medium but also as a ground for the electrical connection between the transducer array elements and the folded substrate.

An analytical model of the self- and mutual capacitance of the proposed interposer channel is suggested and verified based on a 3D electromagnetic (EM) simulation. We thoroughly analyzed the electrical characteristics of the novel interposer channel considering various design parameters, such as the height and pitch of the vertical tabbed via and the gap of the vertical channel.

In the multi-dimensional parameter space, which imposes a challenge for global optimization, the atom number is efficiently modeled via Bayesian optimization with the evaluation of the trap performance given by a Monte-Carlo simulation. Modeling gMOTs for six representative atomic species - Li, Na, Rb, Sr, Cs, Yb - allows us to discover that the optimal grating reflectivity is consistently higher than a simple estimation based on balanced optical molasses.

In this work, we applied the post-metal annealing (PMA) process under the condition of deuterium forming gas, at 10 atm and 300 °C for 30 min, to reduce the noise level of amorphous-Si microbolometers. Here, the DC and temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) measurements of the devices as well as noise analysis were performed before and after the PMA treatment, while changing the width of the resistance layer of the microbolometers with 35 μm or 12 μm pixel.

These NPs conformally enclosed by an antireflective (AR)-type SiN/SiO bilayer reveal significantly diminished reflectance in a broad wavelength (500 nm - 1100 nm) as compared to the cases of Ag NPs or SiO layer enclosing Ag NPs on the Si substrate. Accordingly, the forward scattering and the total reflection along with wide-angle interference in between the dielectric bilayer incorporating the Ag NPs induce highly increased light absorption in the Si substrate.

By exploiting the asymmetric population among magnetic sublevels in the hyperfine ground state of cesium, we observe that the resonance signal acquires sensitivity to magnetic field in spite of degeneracy. A dispersive signal for magnetic field discrimination is obtained near-zero-field as well as for finite fields (tens of micro-tesla) in a chip-scale device of 0.

Acoustic matching layer films (MLFs) were fabricated using B-stage thermosetting polymer resins with various volume fractions of alumina and tungsten powders. After making certain thickness MLFs, ultrasonic matching layers were fabricated using a simple molding process. The thickness of the matching layers can be precisely adjusted from several micrometer to hundreds of micrometer, without any grinding process.

Clear cell odontogenic carcinoma (CCOC), a rare tumor in the head and neck region, displays comparable properties with other tumors clinically and pathologically. In consequence, an incorrect diagnosis may be established. A 51-year-old male patient who was admitted to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Pusan National University Dental Hospital was initially diagnosed with ameloblastoma via incisional biopsy.

Method: About 18 patients with mandibular prognathism who underwent orthognathic surgery with intentional manual condyle positioning were included. Condyle displacement was analyzed through 3D cone-beam computed tomography before and after operation.

Background: The purposes of the present study were to compare implant stabilities of mandibular block bone graft and bovine bone graft and to evaluate influencing factors for implant stability in mandibular block bone (MBB) graft.
Methods: This retrospective study investigated 1224 cases and 389 patients treated by one surgeon in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of Pusan National University Dental Hospital (Yangsan, Korea) between January 2010 and December 2014. Proportions that MBB graft cases constitute in all implant restoration cases and in all bone graft cases were measured.
A piezoelectric vibration energy harvester with interdigital shaped cantilever was developed by using silicon bulk micromachining technology. The proposed energy harvester was designed to obtain multi degree-of-freedom (m-DOF). Most of the piezoelectric vibration energy harvesters are comprised of mass-loaded cantilever beams having several resonant frequencies.

A piezoelectric vibration energy harvester with inter-digital IrO(x) electrode was developed by using silicon bulk micromachining technology. Most PZT cantilever based energy harvesters have utilized platinum electrode material. However, the PZT fatigue characteristics and adhesion/delamination problems caused by the platinum electrode might be serious problem in reliability of energy harvester.

PA-CCRs were fabricated by microelectromechanical systems processes and assembled by aligning horizontally actuated mirrors and vertical side walls in a holder, which allows mass production. Fabricated PA-CCRs showed a tilting angle by more than 1.

Methanol extract and its fractions (CHCl3, n-BuOH and H2O) of the fruit body of Phellinus linteus mushroom were investigated for antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The n-BuOH fraction showed a good antibacterial activity (MIC, 63-125 microg/ml) against all tested strains.
