To investigate the effect of vitamin C supplementation with or without flavonoids on periodontal conditions, and microbial and systemic variables before and after non-surgical periodontal treatment (NSPT). A case series derived from a randomized controlled trial was conducted to explore the effects of daily vitamin C supplementation, with or without flavonoids, on periodontal conditions. The study population was recruited from patients with periodontitis who had been referred to the Department of Periodontology at the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA).

Prevalence of lower extremity edema following inguinal lymphadenectomy: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Lower extremity lymphedema (LEL) can develop because of inguinal lymph node dissection in the treatment of gynecologic, genitourinary, and dermatological malignancies. To optimize patient counseling and patient selection for microsurgical interventions aimed at preventing or treating LEL, its prevalence and associated patient characteristics must be accurately documented. Introduction: Aim of this study was to determine whether postoperative supervised rehabilitation improves functional outcomes after trapeziometacarpal (TMC) total joint arthroplasty (TJA), compared to education alone.

Method: A quasi-experimental before-after trial included 31 women (≥40 years) per group diagnosed with trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis who underwent TJA. A cohort ( = 31) who was given education alone was compared to a cohort ( = 31) who were subjected to supervised rehabilitation.

Background: Sleep is a fundamental aspect of human health and well-being, but is often interrupted in a hospital setting. Especially after surgery, poor sleep quality can negatively affect postoperative recovery and quality of life. Therefore, the aim of this study was to gain insights into the quality of sleep in patients after autologous breast reconstruction and evaluate factors associated with the quality of sleep.

Severe vascular complications after derotational osteotomy of the tibia salvaged with free functional latissimus dorsi muscle transfer. A case report.

We present a case study of a 26-year-old male who sustained severe vascular and neurogenic injury during derotational osteotomy of the tibia. Directly postoperatively he complained of a drop foot, but 3 days later presented with an ischemic compartment syndrome of the anterior and lateral compartments. After debridement the osteotomy and metalware were exposed and the patient had a drop foot.

40 Hz Steady-State Response in Human Auditory Cortex Is Shaped by Gabaergic Neuronal Inhibition.

The 40 Hz auditory steady-state response (ASSR), an oscillatory brain response to periodically modulated auditory stimuli, is a promising, noninvasive physiological biomarker for schizophrenia and related neuropsychiatric disorders. The 40 Hz ASSR might be amplified by synaptic interactions in cortical circuits, which are, in turn, disturbed in neuropsychiatric disorders. Here, we tested whether the 40 Hz ASSR in the human auditory cortex depends on two key synaptic components of neuronal interactions within cortical circuits: excitation via N-methyl-aspartate glutamate (NMDA) receptors and inhibition via gamma-amino-butyric acid (GABA) receptors.
