Recent advances in chiral nanomaterials interacting with circularly polarized (CP) light open new expectations for optoelectronics in various research fields such as quantum- and biology-related technology. To fully utilize the great potential of chiral optoelectronic devices, the development of chiral optoelectronic devices that function in the near-infrared (NIR) region is required. Herein, we demonstrate a NIR-absorbing, chiroptical, low-band-gap polymer semiconductor for high-performance NIR CP light phototransistors.

Background: Several studies have previously reported that laparoscopic surgery using an energy sealing device generates hazardous surgical smoke. However, the droplets appearing on the surface of peritoneal fluid irrigated with saline, after dissection phase of laparoscopic gastrectomy were ignored for a long time. This study aimed to investigate the composition and clinical significance of these droplet particles.

Phosphatase of regenerating liver-1 (PRL-1) controls various cellular processes and liver regeneration. However, the roles of PRL-1 in liver regeneration induced by chorionic-plate-derived mesenchymal stem cells (CP-MSCs) transplantation remain unknown. Here, we found that increased PRL-1 expression by CP-MSC transplantation enhanced liver regeneration in a bile duct ligation (BDL) rat model by promoting the migration and proliferation of hepatocytes.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the surgical outcome and quality of life (QoL) of totally laparoscopic total gastrectomy (TLTG) compared with laparoscopy-assisted total gastrectomy (LATG) in patients with clinical stage I gastric cancer.

Methods: From 2012 to 2018, EGC patients who underwent TLTG (n = 223), including the first case with intracorporeal hemi-double stapling, were matched to those who underwent LATG (n = 114) with extracorporeal circular stapling, using 2:1 propensity score matching (PSM). Prospectively collected morbidity was compared between the TLTG and LATG groups in conjunction with the learning curve.

Background: Although FDG-PET is widely used in cancer, its role in gastric cancer (GC) is still controversial due to variable [F]fluorodeoxyglucose ([F]FDG) uptake. Here, we sought to develop a genetic signature to predict high FDG-avid GC to plan individualized PET and investigate the molecular landscape of GC and its association with glucose metabolic profiles noninvasively evaluated by [F]FDG-PET.

Methods: Based on a genetic signature, PETscore, representing [F]FDG avidity, was developed by imaging data acquired from thirty patient-derived xenografts (PDX).

B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a well-known predictor for prognosis in patients with cardiac and renal diseases. However, there is a lack of studies in patients with advanced hepatic disease, especially patients who underwent liver transplantation (LT). We evaluated whether BNP could predict the prognosis of patients who underwent LT.

We prepared, for the first time, carbon aerogels support on Pd-WO nanorods (CAs/Pd-WO) hybrid nanocomposite via sol-gel and microwave-assisted methods. The as-prepared CAs/Pd-WO-modified electrode was used as effective electrocatalyst for nanomolar level detection of mesalazine (MSA). The typical porous nature of carbon aerogels effectively prevented the aggregation of Pd-doped WO nanorods and increased the electrochemically active surface area.

Background: Placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells (PD-MSCs) have been highlighted as an alternative cell therapy agent that has become a next-generation stem cell treatment. Phosphatase of regenerating liver-1 (PRL-1), an immediate early gene, plays a critical role during liver regeneration. Here, we generated enhanced PRL-1 in PD-MSCs (PD-MSCs, PRL-1+) using lentiviral and nonviral gene delivery systems and investigated mitochondrial functions by PD-MSC transplantation for hepatic functions in a rat bile duct ligation (BDL) model.

Background: Translational studies have explored the therapeutic potential and feasibility of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in several degenerative diseases; however, mechanistic studies of the function of these cells have been insufficient. As ovarian failure causes anovulation as well as ovarian steroid hormonal imbalances, the specific aims of this study were to analyze the therapeutic role of placenta-derived MSCs (PD-MSCs) in an ovarian failure ovariectomy (OVX) rat model and evaluate whether PD-MSC transplantation (Tx) improved folliculogenesis and oocyte maturation in the injured ovary through PI3K/Akt and FOXO signaling.

Methods: Blood and ovary tissue were collected and analyzed after various PD-MSC Tx treatments in an ovariectomized rat model.
