Previously, we developed a genomic urine assay for surveillance of HR-NMIBC patients with high sensitivity and anticipatory value.
Objective: We aimed to validate the performance of the assay in an unselected prospectively collected cohort of HR-NMIBC patients under surveillance.
Purpose: The Genomic Analysis of High-Risk Non-Muscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer (GARNER) study investigated FGFR alteration (ALT) frequency and the clinical outcome relationship with Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) treatment in high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (HR-NMIBC). An FGFR predictive response signature (FGFR-PRS) was discovered that identifies patients with an activated FGFR pathway who could potentially benefit from FGFR-targeted therapy beyond those who are FGFR ALT (+).
Experimental Design: Pretreatment tumor samples and clinical data were analyzed from 582 BCG-treated patients with HR-NMIBC.
The global incidence of bladder cancer is more than half a million diagnoses each year. Bladder cancer can be categorized into non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), which accounts for ~75% of diagnoses, and muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). Up to 45% of patients with NMIBC develop disease progression to MIBC, which is associated with a poor outcome, highlighting a clinical need to identify these patients.

Ion suppression is a major problem in mass spectrometry (MS)-based metabolomics; it can dramatically decrease measurement accuracy, precision, and signal-to-noise sensitivity. Here we report a new method, the IROA TruQuant Workflow, that uses a stable isotope-labeled internal standard (IROA-IS) plus novel companion algorithms to 1) measure and correct for ion suppression, and 2) perform Dual MSTUS normalization of MS metabolomic data. We have evaluated the method across ion chromatography (IC), hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC), and reverse phase liquid chromatography (RPLC)-MS systems in both positive and negative ionization modes, with clean and unclean ion sources, and across different biological matrices.

Nevertheless, there is little mechanistic insight into the role of LRP10 in disease pathogenesis. In the brains of control individuals, LRP10 is typically expressed in non-neuronal cells like astrocytes and neurovasculature, but in idiopathic and genetic cases of PD, PDD, and DLB, it is also present in α-synuclein-positive neuronal Lewy bodies.

We used an asset-based approach to co-design a faith-based intervention to increase uptake of breast, colorectal, and cervical screening in Scottish Muslim women.
Methods: In this pilot qualitative study, we recruited Muslim women (n=28) of Asian and Arab ethnicity, aged 25-74 years, through snowball sampling from community organisations in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Objective: We aimed to investigate whether item response theory (IRT)-based scoring allows for a more accurate, responsive, and less biased assessment of everyday functioning than traditional classical test theory (CTT)-based scoring, as measured with the Amsterdam Instrumental Activities of Daily Living Questionnaire.
Method: In this longitudinal multicenter study including cognitively normal and impaired individuals, we examined IRT-based and CTT-based score distributions and differences between diagnostic groups using linear regressions, and investigated scale attenuation. We compared change over time between scoring methods using linear mixed models with random intercepts and slopes for time.
Objectives: A meta-analytic review was performed to critically synthesize the evidence of oil pulling on improving the parameters of gingival health, plaque control and bacteria counts against chlorhexidine and other mouthwash or oral hygiene practices.
Methods: Databases including Medline, Embase and bibliographies were searched from inception to 1 April 2023. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with 7 days or longer duration of oil pulling with edible oils in comparison to chlorhexidine or other mouthwashes or oral hygiene practice concerning the parameters of plaque index scores (PI), gingival index scores (GI), modified gingival index scores (MGI) and bacteria counts were included.
Electrostatic interactions between the zeolite cavity and confined noble-metal nanoparticles govern the photophysical properties of these materials. A better understanding of these interactions can afford new perspectives in optoelectronics applications. The current gold standard to determine the ‘safe limits’ for oxygen was developed more than 50 years ago and lacks the accuracy required for occupational specialists. These restrictions may be overcome by new diagnostic methods like exhaled breath analysis, which would allow occupational specialists to accurately monitor pulmonary health in the individual diver, and thus reduce long-term health effects of professional diving.
