Background: Basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) are the most common cancers worldwide. Although most BCCs are amenable to local treatment, there are limited therapeutic options for surgically unresectable locally advanced and metastatic BCCs. Activation of the sonic hedgehog signalling pathway plays a significant role in the development of most BCCs.

Introduction: Actinic keratosis (AK) lesions are in situ squamous cell carcinoma. These lesions have a low risk of progressing to invasive disease but significant impact on patients' quality of life (QoL). The aim of this study was to assess QoL and side effects in patients with AK receiving treatment with ingenol mebutate.

It is essential to develop a consensus document on phototherapy in order to adapt this procedure to the specific characteristics, needs and reality of our milieu. Using a review of existing literature on the subject and the experience of its own members as a reference, the Spanish Photobiology Group (GEF) of the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (AEDV) has developed some therapeutic guidelines for the most widely used modes of phototherapy: PUVA therapy and narrow-band UVB (NBUVB) therapy. These guidelines deal with generalities about the equipment, calibration and regulation in phototherapy booths, and the concept and indications for these forms of treatment are reviewed.

Background: Quality-of-life studies aim to measure objectively how patient life is affected by disease. Generation of a novel instrument is more expensive and time-consuming than adapting a test already existing in another language. Skindex-29 is a widely validated American instrument to measure quality of life in patients with cutaneous disease.

Background: Most currently available dermatologic quality-of-life measures were originally created in English, and must be translated and adapted for use in other cultures. Our purpose was to translate and adapt culturally into Spanish a skin-related quality-of-life measure, Skindex-29, and to begin preliminary assessments of its reliability and validity.

Methods: Transcultural adaptation and cross-sectional questionnaire studies were performed.

Leucocyte infusion from the marrow donor is a new therapeutic option to avoid repeated bone marrow transplants in patients with recurrent leukaemia. The treatment is based on the fact that alloreactive donor immune cells may recognize and eliminate residual leukaemia cells. This phenomenon has been called graft-versus-leukaemia.
