Aging is characterized by a decline in tissue function, but the underlying changes at cellular resolution across the organism remain unclear. Here, we present the Aging Fly Cell Atlas, a single-nucleus transcriptomic map of the whole aging . We characterized 163 distinct cell types and performed an in-depth analysis of changes in tissue cell composition, gene expression, and cell identities.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to explore the patterns of feminizing hormone therapy (FHT) and antiretroviral therapy (ART) in trans women living with HIV compared to those without HIV.
  • Among 1495 trans women reviewed, only 86 had HIV, with 91.8% receiving ART, primarily based on integrase inhibitors.
  • The research found that trans women with HIV were less likely to be prescribed FHT than those without, but their serum estrogen and testosterone levels showed no significant differences, suggesting minimal drug-drug interaction concerns.

There has been little information about the proteome of bovine faeces or about the contribution to the faecal proteome of proteins from the host, the feed or the intestinal microbiome. Here, the bovine faecal proteome and the origin of its component proteins was assessed, while also determining the effect of treating barley, the major carbohydrate in the feed, with either ammonia (ATB) or sodium propionate (PTB) preservative. Healthy continental crossbreed steers were allocated to two groups and fed on either of the barley-based diets.

Background: Co-inhibition of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) and androgen receptor activity might result in antitumour efficacy irrespective of alterations in DNA damage repair genes involved in homologous recombination repair (HRR). We aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of talazoparib (a PARP inhibitor) plus enzalutamide (an androgen receptor blocker) versus enzalutamide alone in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC).

Methods: TALAPRO-2 is a randomised, double-blind, phase 3 trial of talazoparib plus enzalutamide versus placebo plus enzalutamide as first-line therapy in men (age ≥18 years [≥20 years in Japan]) with asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic mCRPC receiving ongoing androgen deprivation therapy.

The objective of this review was to scope the current evidence base related to three exposure assessment concepts: frequency, intensity, and duration (latency) for cleaning and disinfection exposures in healthcare and subsequent work-related asthma risks. A search strategy was developed addressing intersections of four main concepts: (1) work-related asthma; (2) occupation (healthcare workers/nurses); (3) cleaning and disinfection; and (4) exposure. Three databases were searched: Embase, PubMed, and the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) database.

Importance: The culture of academic medicine may foster mistreatment that disproportionately affects individuals who have been marginalized within a given society (minoritized groups) and compromises workforce vitality. Existing research has been limited by a lack of comprehensive, validated measures, low response rates, and narrow samples as well as comparisons limited to the binary gender categories of male or female assigned at birth (cisgender).

Objective: To evaluate academic medical culture, faculty mental health, and their relationship.

Sierra Leone is vulnerable to a wide range of vector-borne diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, tsetse flies, black flies, and other vectors. Malaria, lymphatic filariasis, and onchocerciasis have posed the greatest threat and have received the most attention in terms of vector control and capacity for diagnosis. However, malaria infection rates remain high, and there is evidence of circulation of other vector-borne diseases, such as chikungunya and dengue, which may go undiagnosed and unreported.

Objective: Self-perceived cognitive functioning, considered highly relevant in the context of aging and dementia, is assessed in numerous ways-hindering the comparison of findings across studies and settings. Therefore, the present study aimed to link item-level self-report questionnaire data from international aging studies.

Method: We harmonized secondary data from 24 studies and 40 different questionnaires with item response theory (IRT) techniques using a graded response model with a Bayesian estimator.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how accurately cognitive functions are measured in participants from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI), focusing on those with normal cognition, mild cognitive impairment, and Alzheimer's disease.
  • Using data from participant visits, researchers analyzed scores for memory, executive function, language, and visuospatial skills while calculating the standard errors of measurement for each cognitive domain.
  • Results showed that participants with normal cognition scored the highest, those with mild cognitive impairment scored in the middle, and those with Alzheimer's scored the lowest, with varying measurement precision across cognitive domains, particularly less precise for memory.

The measurable residual disease (MRD) assessment provides an attractive predictor of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplnat (alloHCT) outcomes. Cell-free DNA (cfDNA) has been applied to diagnosis, early detection, and disease burden monitoring in various tumors, but its utility as an MRD test in myeloid malignancies has not been systematically evaluated. We sought to determine the differential sensitivity between bone marrow (BM) and cfDNA MRD and to assess the effect of cfDNA MRD on alloHCT outcomes.

Organic-inorganic nanocomposite films formed from blends of small-molecule organic semiconductors and colloidal quantum dots are attractive candidates for high efficiency, low-cost solar energy harvesting devices. Understanding and controlling the self-assembly of the resulting organic-inorganic nanocomposite films is crucial in optimising device performance, not only at a lab-scale but for large-scale, high-throughput printing and coating methods. Here, grazing incidence X-ray scattering (GIXS) gives direct insights into how small-molecule organic semiconductors and colloidal quantum dots self-assemble during blade coating.

Critical gerontologists have called for more diverse and inclusive visions of a good old age, and especially for imaginings that do not depend on health, wealth and heterosexuality. They have suggested that LGBTQ people, alongside other marginalized groups, may have particular contributions to make to the project of reimagining ageing. In this paper, we bring together this work with Jose Muñoz's concept of 'cruising utopia' to examine possibilities for imagining a more utopian, queer life course.
