Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined how sleep problems affect self-rated health in people aged 50 and above in Ghana, analyzing data from 1,201 individuals.
  • - It found that sleep issues lead to increased pain interference and worse self-rated health, with pain interference accounting for a significant portion of this relationship.
  • - Notably, the pain interference mediated 61.6% of the sleep-SRH link overall, with a lower percentage (36.7%) among women, suggesting that better sleep and pain management could enhance health outcomes, especially for older women.

Objective: Food insecurity (FI) is a critical social determinant of poor psychosocial health. While data on the specific roles of sex and age in the FI-loneliness link among older adults are limited, the underlying mechanisms are largely unknown. This study examines the age-sex-specific associations of FI with loneliness among older adults in Ghana and quantifies the extent to which psychosomatic factors mediate the association.

This study aims to examine the association of DM with functional limitations (FL) in older adults and to identify potential factors influencing this association.
