Piper capitarianum essential oil: a promising insecticidal agent for the management of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus.

Mosquitoes are responsible for serious public health problems worldwide, and as such, Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus are important vectors in the transmission of dengue, chikungunya, and Zika in Brazil and other countries of the world. Due to growing resistance to chemical insecticides among populations of vectors, environmentally friendly strategies for vector management are receiving ever more attention. Essential oils (EOs) extracted from plants have activities against insects with multiple mechanisms of action.

Confidence and self-attribution bias in an artificial stock market.

Using an agent-based model we examine the dynamics of stock price fluctuations and their rates of return in an artificial financial market composed of fundamentalist and chartist agents with and without confidence. We find that chartist agents who are confident generate higher price and rate of return volatilities than those who are not. We also find that kurtosis and skewness are lower in our simulation study of agents who are not confident.

Interaction between fiscal and monetary policy in a dynamic nonlinear model.

The objective of this study is to verify the dynamics between fiscal policy, measured by public debt, and monetary policy, measured by a reaction function of a central bank. Changes in monetary policies due to deviations from their targets always generate fiscal impacts. We examine two policy reaction functions: the first related to inflation targets and the second related to economic growth targets.

Effects of the attractive interactions in the thermodynamic, dynamic, and structural anomalies of a two length scale potential.

Using molecular dynamic simulations, we study a system of particles interacting through a continuous core-softened potentials consisting of a hard core, a shoulder at closest distances, and an attractive well at further distance. We obtain the pressure-temperature phase diagram of this system for various depths of the tunable attractive well. Since this is a two length scale potential, density, diffusion, and structural anomalies are expected.
