Men with cystic fibrosis are nearly always infertile due to congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens, but can undergo assisted reproduction. Ill health may influence reproductive choices. This paper reports data on fertility and family formation in CF including the use of assisted reproduction in a total cohort of 205 men (mean age 30.

Article Synopsis
  • Enzyme activities from anaerobic fungi in the rumen show promise for improving digestion of tough plant cell wall polysaccharides, which could benefit sustainable industries.
  • Four genes encoding unique glycoside hydrolases (GH39s) were identified, and two recombinant proteins (NF2152 and NF2523) were analyzed for their biochemical properties.
  • NF2152 produces new sugar products from various plant sources, while NF2523 is the first known enzyme to release a specific sugar (α-1,2-Gal-Ara), hinting at their potential for applications in biotechnology and industrial processes.

This survey examined the provision of fertility preservation for female oncology patients prior to cancer treatments, given their well-established gonadotoxic effects. Questionnaires were sent to all assisted conception units in the UK enquiring about the provision of oocyte or embryo cryopreservation, as well as funding for female oncology patients. In addition, data were obtained from the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) on the number of cryopreservation cycles in 2013-2014.

Several o-quinodimethane adducts of [60]fullerene were synthesized and their intramolecular aryl CH-fullerene π interactions were studied using variable temperature-NMR (VT-NMR). Evaluation of the rate constants associated with the first-order transition states for cyclohexene boat-to-boat inversions enables quantification of ΔG(‡) values for each inversion. A comparison between two constitutional isomers, only one of which is capable of intramolecular CH-π interactions, provides a lower limit of 0.

The title compound, C(20)H(18), has two crystallographically independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. The phenyl substituents of mol-ecule A are twisted away from the plane defined by the central benzene ring by 131.8 (2) and -52.

In the title compound, C(20)H(16)Br(2), the terminal phenyl groups are twisted away from the central ring by approximately 55 and -125° (average of four dihedral angles each), respectively. The crystal structure is stabilized by a combination of inter-molecular and intra-molecular inter-actions including inter-molecular π-π stacking inter-actions [C atoms of closest contact = 3.423 (5) Å].

The complete mol-ecule of the title compound, C(4)H(2)Cl(2)O(2)S, is generated by crystallographic twofold symmetry, with the S atom lying on the rotation axis. In the crystal, the molecules are linked by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds..

[chemical structure: see text]. Organic polyamines are efficient reagents for the regioselective hydrogenation of [60]fullerene. When [60]fullerene is heated in diethylenetriamine, a known C60H18 isomer with C3v symmetry is produced and isolated in good purity without the need for chromatographic separation.

[structure: see text]. A one-pot, diastereoselective synthesis of a cis,cis-tris[60]fullerene adduct of 6,8,15,17-tetraphenylheptacene has been demonstrated starting from [60]fullerene and 5,7,9,14,16,18-hexahydro-6,8,15,17-tetraphenylheptacene.

[structure: see text]. Crystal structures of the cis-bis[60]fullerene adduct of 6,13-diphenylpentacene (with the closest carbon atoms on adjacent fullerenes only 3.065(8) angstroms apart) and the [60]fullerene-pentacene monoadduct are in remarkably close agreement with the MM2 calculated structures.

Primary nonHodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) occurs in both nodal and extranodal sites. Lymphoma arising in mammary tissue is rare. The majority are of B-cell origin, while a few case studies of T-cell lymphomas of the breast have been reported.

The purpose of this report was to study the results of external beam radiotherapy for patients with extranodal stage IA non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). A retrospective review was carried out on 27 patients seen between 1984 and 1998 with stage IA NHL of extranodal sites, and followed up for a minimum of 1 year. Sites involved included eye/orbit (seven), parotid (five), breast (four), Waldeyer ring (four), thyroid (three), other head and neck (two), stomach (one), and prostate (one).
