Post-traumatic osseous cyst of the distal radius in a child.

Post-traumatic osseous cysts are an uncommon complication of pediatric appendicular trauma which develop in the first few weeks following the injury. Due to their infrequent occurrence, their appearance may be mistaken for other, more sinister entities. We present a case of a post-traumatic osseous cyst in a 6-year old child with radiographic and magnetic resonance imaging findings which we hope will reassure clinicians as to their benign nature and prevent over-investigation.

Synthesis and antibacterial activities of enamine derivatives of dehydroacetic acid.

Dehydroacetic acid is a common pyrone derivative used commercially as an antibacterial and antifungal agent. Based on the synthesis of dehydroacetic acid () from -hydroxysuccinimdyl acetoacetate, a novel series of enamine-based derivatives were synthesised in order to improve the antibacterial activity of dehydroacetic acid. Permanent catheter drainage system for palliation of diuretic-resistant cardiac ascites.

We report the case of a 69-year-old man with dilated cardiomyopathy treated with a permanent catheter drainage system for diuretic resistant cardiac ascites. At 1 year follow-up, the patient had no heart failure related hospitalisations, displayed improved quality of life measures and had incurred no complications related to the catheter. Permanent tunnelled catheters are widely used to treat malignant ascites but may also be considered for palliation of cardiac ascites.

Diminution of falsely elevated tumour markers following immunosuppression for systemic lupus erythematosus with neurological involvement.

We describe the case of a patient with a long history of undifferentiated connective tissue disease who developed headache, ataxia and orofacial dyskinesia attributed to a diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Gross elevation of the concentration of several plasma tumour markers (CEA, CA-125, CA19-9, CA15-3) was detected in the absence of malignancy. These markers fell significantly within a month of starting immunosuppressive therapy alongside clinical improvement.
