The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of watering before slaughter and different evisceration methods on the quality characteristics of fattened goose liver. A total of randomly selected 60 male Greylag Landaise geese (Anser anser) were used to execute the experiment which had been force-fed during their growing period. In the slaughterhouse, randomized block design was followed and the birds were randomly divided into four experimental groups and half of the them (30 birds) were given 200 ml tap water.

Evaluation of ultrasound and microbubbles effect on pork meat during brining process.

In this study combined effect of ultrasound-induced acoustic cavitation and microbubbles during meat brining on pork loin (Longissimus dorsi) was evaluated. Cylindrical shape (diameter 15 mm, height 80 mm) pork loin samples were cut and immersed in 200 g L NaCl brine and treated with the following brining methods for 180 min: static brining (SB), ultrasound assisted brining (US) and ultrasound combined with microbubbles in brine (USMB). Ultrasound was generated with 20 kHz frequency, 5,09 W/cm maximum intensity and 100 W maximum power.

An evaluation of the use of the Jasco CD-995 in conjunction with achiral high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for the determination of the enantiomeric purity of various SB compounds is described. We used a portal vein-ligated rat model with predictable portal hypertension to study the effects of portal hypertension alone on the atrial natriuretic peptide hormonal system.

Atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) is a cardiac hormone with potent natriuretic, diuretic, and vasorelaxant properties. Although abnormalities in ANF release, plasma level, and renal receptors have been described in humans and/or animals with cirrhosis and ascites, little is known about the ANF hormonal system in cirrhosis without ascites. The aim of this study was to examine the ANF hormonal system in an animal model of cirrhosis to determine whether compensated cirrhosis is associated with changes in the ANF hormonal system.

Chronic omeprazole treatment increases duodenal susceptibility to ethanol injury in rats.

To test whether omeprazole would increase the susceptibility of the duodenum to damage, 200 to 250-g male Sprague-Dawley rats were given 10 mg/kg of omeprazole (Losec) by gavage every morning for 29 days. Control rats were given gavage buffer alone. After fasting overnight, half the rats received 10 mg/kg indomethacin intraperitoneally; then all rats were given 2 ml of 50% ethanol by gavage.
