The measurement of the electronic bandgap and exciton binding energy in quasi-one-dimensional materials such as carbon nanotubes is challenging due to many-body effects and strong electron-electron interactions. Unlike bulk semiconductors, where the electronic bandgap is well known, the optical resonance in low-dimensional semiconductors is dominated by excitons, making their electronic bandgap more difficult to measure. In this work, we measure the electronic bandgap of networks of polymer-wrapped semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (s-SWCNTs) using non-ideal diodes.

This study evaluates the effect of Pranic Healing (PH) as a complementary therapy for bothersome LUTS by normalising biofield energy centres called Chakras.
Methodology: A single blind trial involving 76 men with LUTS was conducted, randomised into Medication-only (MED) and Medication-plus-Pranic Healing (MEDPH) groups.
Sunflower trypsin inhibitor-1 (SFTI-1) structure is used for designing grafted peptides as a possible therapeutic agent. The grafted peptide exhibits multiple conformations in solution due to the presence of proline in the structure of the peptide. To lock the grafted peptide into a major conformation in solution, a dibenzofuran moiety (DBF) was incorporated in the peptide backbone structure, replacing the Pro-Pro sequence.

We describe the first implementation of a Josephson Traveling Wave Parametric Amplifier (JTWPA) in an axion dark matter search. The operation of the JTWPA for a period of about two weeks achieved sensitivity to axion-like particle dark matter with axion-photon couplings above 10-13 Ge V-1 over a narrow range of axion masses centered around 19.84 µeV by tuning the resonant frequency of the cavity over the frequency range of 4796.

Methods: A retrospective micro-costing analysis was conducted to quantify the direct cost associated with ORCs.
Spontaneous dimerization of EGF receptors (EGFR) and dysregulation of EGFR signaling has been associated with the development of different cancers. Under normal physiological conditions and to maintain homeostatic cell growth, once EGFR signaling occurs, it needs to be attenuated. Activated EGFRs are rapidly internalized, sorted through early endosomes, and ultimately degraded in lysosomes by a process generally known as receptor down-regulation.

Background: The idea of "life force" or "subtle pranic energy," sometimes referred to as vital force, and scientifically accepted as biofield, is prevalent across many cultures.
Objectives: This review's objective is to synthesize data from studies that looked at a range of physical, psychological, and biofield sensations while experiencing and receiving biofield therapies.
Method: We looked for qualitative, exploratory, and mixed-method studies on subtle pranic energy perceptions, as well as the physical and emotional experiences connected to biofield therapeutic procedures, through searches in 3 electronic databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus.
Background: Oleanolic acid (OA) and moderate drinking have been reported to attenuate diabetes. However, the underlying mechanism of OA and moderate drinking alone or in combination on the islet -cell deficiency induced diabetes is not fully elucidated.
Methods: Male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were intraperitoneally injected with 55 mg/kg streptozotocin (STZ) to induce -cell deficiency.
Prana is the driving and organizing force of the entire universe, and essential for survival. It can be experimental and experiential. This is a retrospective analysis of the pranic energy perception data collected for an exploratory study conducted in 2014 using the convenience sampling method.

However, in most instances, these resonances are driven by a single scattering mechanism. Here, we show the appearance of resonances due to the combination of two simultaneous scattering mechanisms, one from superconductivity and the other from graphene p-n junctions.

Ligand-targeted drug delivery can be utilized to deliver chemotherapeutic drugs to cancer cells selectively and specifically. Here we report the evaluation of a lyophilized formulation of a liposome containing a peptidomimetic-doxorubicin conjugate for targeted delivery of doxorubicin to HER2-positive cancer cells.

In photosynthesis, they are performed by distinct proteins. However, conventional solar cells use the same semiconductor for optical absorption and electron-hole separation, leading to inefficiencies.

Mutagenesis analysis delineated the UL37 domains necessary for retrograde transport and viral replication. Specifically, the amino-terminal 480 amino acids are dispensable for virus replication in epithelial cell culture, but it is unknown whether this amino-terminal deletion affects UL37 structure and intracellular transport in epithelial cells and neurons.

Based on different 3D cell culture procedures, we describe procedures we have used to obtain 3D tumor spheroids by both the hanging-drop and ultra-low-attachment plate methods and to analyze the antiproliferative and antitumor efficacy of different chemotherapeutic agents, including a peptidomimetic. We have applied this method to breast and lung cancer cell lines such as BT-474, MCF-7, A549, and Calu-3.

Background: The traditional Chinese medicine Gegen Qinlian Decoction (GQD), as well as metformin, had been reported with anti-diabetic effects in clinical practice.
Objective: To verify whether these two medicines effectively ameliorate hyperglycemia caused by deficiency of islet β-cell mass which occurs in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
Methods: SD rats were injected with a single dose of STZ (55 mg/kg) to induce β-cell destruction.
Protein-protein interactions (PPI) of co-stimulatory molecules CD2-CD58 are important in the early stage of an immune response, and increased expression of these co-stimulatory molecules is observed in the synovial region of joints in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. A CD2 epitope region that binds to CD58 was grafted on to sunflower trypsin inhibitor (SFTI) template structure to inhibit CD2-CD58 PPI. The peptide was incorporated with an organic moiety dibenzofuran (DBF) in its structure.

In Drosophila, olfactory and gustatory senses are required to initiate courtship, as well as for the escalation of courtship patterns that lead to copulation. To be successful, copulation must last long enough to ensure the transfer of sperm and seminal fluid that ultimately leads to fertilization.

Among the tested compounds, the pyrazolone P7 exhibited high antiproliferative activity against both A549 and NCIH522 cancer cell lines while being 10 times less cytotoxic to non-cancerous cells. Moreover, our compounds P7 and P11 exhibited higher antiproliferative activity and selectivity against A549 and NCIH522 cells compared with the clinically approved drugs Afatinib and Gefitinib.

Virus entry into cells can be blocked using several strategies, including inhibition of protein-protein interactions (PPIs) between the viral spike glycoprotein and cellular receptors, as well as blocking of spike protein conformational changes that are required for cleavage/activation and fusogenicity. The spike-mediated viral attachment and entry into cells via fusion of the viral envelope with cellular membranes involve PPIs mediated by short peptide fragments exhibiting particular secondary structures.
