Potential of autologous immunologic effector cells for bone marrow purging in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia.

Relapse is a major concern in autologous bone marrow transplantation (BMT). Therefore, purging of bone marrow to reduce the amount of tumor cells reinfused into the patient is widely used. Immunologic effector cells such as lymphokine activated killer (LAK) cells are attractive for purging of bone marrow since these cells might have an additional in vivo effect on tumor cells in contrast to other purging protocols.

Propagation of large numbers of T cells with natural killer cell markers.

Previously, a subset of T cells co-expressing the NK cell antigen CD56 has been described. These CD3+CD56+ cells are rare in peripheral blood collections and have been poorly characterized. We have developed culture conditions which allow for the rapid expansion of CD3+CD56+ cells.

Interruption of parturition in rats by morphine: a result of inhibition of oxytocin secretion.

Oxytocin secretion is inhibited by opioids, and oxytocin is important in parturition. The effects on parturition of morphine, a relatively selective mu-opioid receptor agonist, were studied in the rat. Morphine or vehicle with or without the opiate antagonist naloxone were administered immediately after the birth of the second pup and the subsequent course of parturition was recorded in a total of 80 rats.

A physiologically based model of the neocortex has been developed in an attempt to elucidate possible structural and functional mechanisms of the mammalian cortex and account for a wide range of low level cognitive behavior. The model has been constrained by diverse empirical data. At the level of structural details, neuroanatomical and neurophysiological data have been considered and at the level of gross behavior, psychological data has been used.

A comparative study of CLEP scores between MT and MLT students.

CLEP subject examinations for the areas of clinical chemistry, microbiology, hematology and immunohematology were administered to medical technology (MT) and medical laboratory technician (MLT) students. Test scores were analyzed and showed that MT students scored from 25% to 48% higher than MLT students. Mean percentile ranks were compared with college courses completed; these indicated that additional upper division academic courses raised the mean percentile rank.
