Women with a history of hyperBtensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are at particularly high risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and CVD-related death, and certain racial and ethnic subpopulations are disproportionately affected by these conditions. We examined the use of race, ethnicity, and national origin in observational studies assessing CVD morbidity and mortality in women with a history of HDP. A total of 124 studies, published between 1976 and 2021, were reviewed.

Historically, the role of the judiciary is to arrest, impose sanctions and protect society from harm. Adults arrested for drug abuse in Indiana can be sentenced to 1 of 17 correctional facilities.

All nanoparticles have the potential to revolutionize the delivery of therapeutic cargo such as peptides, proteins, and RNA. However, effective cytosolic delivery of cargo from nanoparticles represents a significant challenge in the design of more efficient drug delivery vehicles. Recently, research has centered on designing nanoparticles with the capacity to escape endosomes by responding to biological stimuli such as changes in pH, which occur when nanoparticles are internalized into the endo-/lysosomal pathway.

Aims: To compare the efficacy and safety of antihyperglycemic agents, taken in combination with metformin, for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Methods: A previous 2016 comprehensive search of Ovid MEDLINE, PubMed, and Cochrane CENTRAL was updated to October 2018, and a systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA) was conducted. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of patients with T2DM taking an antihyperglycemic agent in combination with metformin were included.

Protected area characteristics that help waterbirds respond to climate warming.

Protected area networks help species respond to climate warming. However, the contribution of a site's environmental and conservation-relevant characteristics to these responses is not well understood. We investigated how composition of nonbreeding waterbird communities (97 species) in the European Union Natura 2000 (N2K) network (3018 sites) changed in response to increases in temperature over 25 years in 26 European countries.

The BPH/5 Mouse Model of Superimposed Preeclampsia Is Not a Model of HELLP Syndrome.

Preeclampsia (PE) is a multisystemic disease of pregnancy affecting 2-8% of women worldwide. PE-induced liver disease is a rare but important complication of pregnancy. The pathogenesis of liver dysfunction in PE is poorly understood, but is correlated with dysregulated angiogenic, inflammatory, and hypoxic events in the early phase of placental development.

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) based on perovskite quantum dots have shown external quantum efficiencies (EQEs) of over 23% and narrowband emission, but suffer from limited operating stability. Reduced-dimensional perovskites (RDPs) consisting of quantum wells (QWs) separated by organic intercalating cations show high exciton binding energies and have the potential to increase the stability and the photoluminescence quantum yield. However, until now, RDP-based LEDs have exhibited lower EQEs and inferior colour purities.

Batch-produced, GIS-informed range maps for birds based on provenanced, crowd-sourced data inform conservation assessments.

Accurate maps of species ranges are essential to inform conservation, but time-consuming to produce and update. Given the pace of change of knowledge about species distributions and shifts in ranges under climate change and land use, a need exists for timely mapping approaches that enable batch processing employing widely available data. We develop a systematic approach of batch-processing range maps and derived Area of Habitat maps for terrestrial bird species with published ranges below 125,000 km2 in Central and South America.

How do communicative cues shape the way that dogs (Canis familiaris) encode objects?

Our human capacity to efficiently learn from other individuals is unparalleled in any nonhuman species. Some scholars argue that our propensity to learn socially is supported by an early-emerging expectation that communicative cues will convey generic information (Csibra & Gergely, 2011). In the current 2 studies, we examine whether this expectation about generic information is unique to humans by testing a species that readily attends to human cues-dogs.

Optimising emergency department and acute care for people experiencing mental health problems: a nominal group study.

Objective The aim of this study was to identify potential model of care approaches and systems processes for people presenting to acute healthcare settings with mental health problems, including mental illnesses. Methods Five (consensus) nominal group technique sessions were conducted in 2019 with a purposive sample of stakeholders from health, police, ambulance and consumer agencies (n  = 21). Sessions were recorded, transcribed and analysed for thematic content.

Hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites (HOIPs) have garnered widespread interest, yet stability remains a critical issue that limits their further application. Compared to their three-dimensional (3D) counterparts, two-dimensional (2D)-HOIPs exhibit improved stability. 2D-HOIPs are also appealing because their structural and optical properties can be tuned according to the choice of organic ligand, with monovalent or divalent ligands forming Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) or Dion-Jacobson (DJ)-type 2D perovskites, respectively.

Limited sampling strategies for estimation of tacrolimus exposure in kidney transplant recipients receiving extended-release tacrolimus preparation.

Tacrolimus is the key component of most contemporary immunosuppressive drug regimens for the prevention of transplant rejection. Area under the concentration time curve over 24 h (AUC ) predicts efficacy, but predose (trough) tacrolimus blood concentration (C ) is currently used to guide dosing. In clinical or research situations where an estimate of AUC is required, collection of a full 24 h pharmacokinetic (PK) profile is cumbersome.

Background: Reintubation is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The reintubation rate in surgical ICUs (SICUs) is ∼10% nationally but was 17.0% in our SICU.

Knowledge translation following the implementation of a state-wide Paediatric Sepsis Pathway in the emergency department- a multi-centre survey study.

Background: Several health care systems internationally have implemented protocolised sepsis recognition and treatment bundles for children to improve outcomes, as recommended by the Surviving Sepsis Campaign. Successful implementation of clinical pathways is challenging and dependent on nurse engagement. There is limited data on knowledge translation during implementation of sepsis quality improvement programs.

Imaging of patients with multiple myeloma and associated plasma cell disorders: consensus practice statement by the Medical Scientific Advisory Group to Myeloma Australia.

Imaging modalities for multiple myeloma (MM) have evolved to enable earlier detection of disease. Furthermore, the diagnosis of MM requiring therapy has recently changed to include disease prior to bone destruction, specifically the detection of focal bone lesions. Focal lesions are early, abnormal areas in the bone marrow, which may signal the development of subsequent lytic lesions that typically occur within the next 18-24 months.

Management and Outcomes of Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma Post-transplant Lymphoproliferative Disorder in the Era of PET and Rituximab: A Multicenter Study From the Australasian Lymphoma Alliance.

There are limited data on post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) in the era of positron emission tomography (PET) and rituximab (R). Furthermore, there is limited data on the risk of graft rejection with modern practices in reduction in immunosuppression (RIS). We studied 91 patients with monomorphic diffuse large B-cell lymphoma PTLD at 11 Australian centers: median age 52 years, diagnosed between 2004 and 2017, median follow-up 4.

Umbilical hernia repair and recurrence: need for a clinical trial?

Introduction: Umbilical hernia repair, despite its perceived simplicity, is associated with recurrence between 2.7 and 27%, in mesh repair and non mesh repair respectively. Many factors are recognized contributors to recurrence however multiple defects in the linea alba, known to occur in up to 30% of patients, appear to have been overlooked by surgeons.

Regional variation in the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the quantity and quality of data collected by the project eBird.

The COVID-19 pandemic has likely affected natural systems around the world; the curtailment of human activity has also affected the collection of data needed to identify the indirect effects of this pandemic on natural systems. We describe how the outbreak of COVID-19 disease, and associated stay-at-home orders in four political regions, have affected the quantity and quality of data collected by participants in one volunteer-based bird monitoring project, eBird. The four regions were selected both for their early and prolonged periods of mandated changes to human activity, and because of the high densities of observations collected.

Expansion Phase 1 Study of Pegargiminase Plus Pemetrexed and Cisplatin in Patients With Argininosuccinate Synthetase 1-Deficient Mesothelioma: Safety, Efficacy, and Resistance Mechanisms.

Introduction: Pegargiminase (ADI-PEG 20; ADI) degrades arginine and potentiates pemetrexed (Pem) cytotoxicity in argininosuccinate synthetase 1 (ASS1)-deficient malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM). We conducted a phase 1 dose-expansion study at the recommended phase 2 dose of ADI-PEG 20 with Pem and cisplatin (ADIPemCis), to further evaluate arginine-lowering therapy in ASS1-deficient MPM and explore the mechanisms of resistance.

Methods: A total of 32 patients with ASS1-deficient MPM (11 epithelioid; 10 biphasic;11 sarcomatoid) who were chemonaive received weekly intramuscular pegargiminase (36 mg/m) with Pem (500 mg/m) and cisplatin (75 mg/m) intravenously, every 3 weeks (six cycles maximum).

It has been suggested that over the course of domestication, dogs developed the propensity to "look back" or gaze at humans when they encounter a challenging task. Unfortunately, little work to date has addressed the question of why dogs look back. To explore this issue, we conducted 3 experiments in which dogs had the option of doing something other than looking back at their owner when encountering an unsolvable task.
