Epigenetic aging clocks are computational models that predict age using DNA methylation information. Initially, first-generation clocks were developed to make predictions using CpGs that change with age. Over time, next-generation clocks were created using CpGs that relate to both age and health.

Secondary objectives were to evaluate if donor or recipient MCA-PSV is associated with a risk for their corresponding fetal death, and to compare the proportion of donor fetuses with low MCA pulsatility index (PI) among donor twins with high MCA-PSV and those with normal MCA-PSV to evaluate the contribution of blood-flow redistribution to the fetal brain in donor twins with high MCA-PSV.

In-principle support for this aim is widespread across mental healthcare professionals. Yet, progress in mental health services towards this objective has lagged in practice.

However, the effects of rapid weight loss pre-THA remain unclear. This study evaluated patients who had initial BMIs between 40 and 50, and then achieved a BMI under 35 at various intervals before their THA.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTransient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) is a nonselective calcium ion channel highly expressed in the primary sensory neurons, functioning as a polymodal sensor for exogenous and endogenous stimuli, and has been implicated in neuropathic pain and respiratory disease. Herein, we describe the optimization of potent, selective, and orally bioavailable TRPA1 small molecule antagonists with strong target engagement in rodent models. Several lead molecules in preclinical single- and short-term repeat-dose toxicity studies exhibited profound prolongation of coagulation parameters.

Arthrofibrosis has been extensively studied due to its negative impact on TKA outcomes. Losartan, an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), has the potential to improve TKA outcomes by inhibiting TGF-β and decreasing fibrosis.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFriedreich ataxia (FRDA) is a multisystemic, autosomal recessive disorder caused by homozygous GAA expansion mutation in the first intron of frataxin () gene. FXN is a mitochondrial protein critical for iron-sulfur cluster biosynthesis and deficiency impairs mitochondrial electron transport chain functions and iron homeostasis within the organelle. Currently, there is no effective treatment for FRDA.

Despite broad theoretical understanding that discrimination is a major social and structural determinant that contributes to disparate HIV outcomes among Black MSM, relatively little extant research has empirically examined structural discrimination against sexual minorities as a predictor of HIV outcomes among this population. The present study therefore examines whether variation in policies that explicitly discriminate against lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) people and variation in policies that explicitly protect LGB people differentially predict metropolitan statistical-area-level variation in late HIV diagnoses among Black MSM over time, from 2008 to 2014.

Design: Infants > 37 weeks gestation with critical CHD were studied within the first few days of life and prior to cardiac surgery and compared to data from a published reference group. Passive respiratory resistance (Rrs) and compliance (Crs) were measured with the single breath occlusion technique following specific acceptance criteria.
Non-typhoidal are common foodborne pathogens throughout the world causing acute gastroenteritis. Compared to North America and Europe, there is little information on NTS in the Caribbean. Here we investigated the prevalence and characteristics of NTS present in the local poultry of the Cayman Islands to determine the public health risk.

Periarticular factors, such as muscle quality (eg, echo intensity [EI] and shear wave velocity [SWV]), may contribute to knee OA pain; however, the role of muscle quality in OA symptoms has yet to be fully established.
Methods: Twenty-six adults (age >50 years) meeting clinical criteria for knee OA were included in this cross-sectional study.
Human astrovirus (HAstV) is a nonenveloped RNA virus and has been implicated in acute gastroenteritis among children and elderly. However, there exists a substantial dearth of information on HAstV strains circulating in Nigeria. Viral-like particles were purified from archived 254 stool samples of children with acute flaccid paralysis between January and December 2020 from five states in Nigeria, using the NetoVIR protocol.

The national context of deportation threat, defined as the federal government's approach to deportation and/or deportation's salience to the US public, fluctuated between 2011 and 2018. US Latinos across citizenship statuses may have experienced growing psychological distress associated with these changes, given their disproportionate personal or proximal vulnerabilities to deportation. Drawing on 8 y of public- and restricted-access data from the National Health Interview Survey (2011 to 2018), this article examines trends in psychological distress among Latinos who are US-born citizens, naturalized citizens, and noncitizens.

Background: Bladder cancer has been linked to several occupations that involve the use of solvents, including those used in the dry-cleaning industry.
Objectives: We evaluated exposure to solvents and risk of bladder cancer in 1182 incident cases and 1408 controls from a population-based study.
Methods: Exposure to solvents was quantitatively assessed using a job-exposure matrix (CANJEM).
Background: Many adverse events are identified as nursing-sensitive indicators (NSIs) and have evidence-based care bundles known to reduce risk of occurrence. Kamishibai cards are a tool from the manufacturing industry used for practice auditing and improvements. Use of Kamishibai cards is believed to be common in the healthcare setting, but true evidence-based guidelines do not yet exist to guide their implementation.

Here, we determined the contribution of bioenergetic efficiency to life span and health span in Drosophila melanogaster utilizing the mitochondrial uncoupler BAM15. Life span was determined in flies fed a normal diet (ND) or high fat diet (HFD) supplemented with vehicle or BAM15.

With insects gaining more popularity in the Western world, it is crucial to investigate their chemical food safety. This study aimed at investigating possible isotopic patterns in different edible insect species (n = 52) from Asia, Africa and Europe using stable isotope ratio analysis (SIRA) to provide a framework for future investigations on food authenticity and traceability.
