Determinants of life satisfaction in adolescents with congenital or acquired heart disease: a nationwide cross-sectional study.

Background: We aimed to investigate how self-reported physical and cognitive limitations (challenges), self-efficacy, and social support interacted with life satisfaction in adolescents and young adults with congenital heart disease (CHD) or acquired heart disease, among whom life satisfaction may be impaired.

Methods: "Adolescence with Heart Disease" was a cross-sectional, nationwide survey of patients with CHD or early acquired heart disease aged 15-25. Structural equation modeling was used to test the implied latent variable mediation model between the main outcome of interest (life satisfaction) and challenges, social support, and self-efficacy.

Implementation and Interim Analysis of a Standardized Renal Trauma Imaging and Urinary Extravasation Management Protocol.

Introduction: The AUA recommends delayed-phase imaging (DPI) in renal injuries to evaluate the collecting system. A renal trauma imaging protocol for early conservative management of urinary extravasation (UE) was implemented to improve guideline adherence. We aimed to determine if increased adherence led to changes in outcomes.

Background: Sexual satisfaction is an important component of global quality life for many adult men. Substantial gaps exist in our appreciation of how age mediates sexual satisfaction in the context of functional sexual measures. We sought to evaluate modifiable factors associated with overall sexual satisfaction and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in a large, age-stratified community-based sample of adult men.

A Chemo-Enzymatic Cascade Strategy for the Synthesis of Phosphatidylcholine Incorporated with Structurally Diverse FAHFAs.

Fatty acid esters of hydroxy fatty acids (FAHFAs), a newly discovered class of human endogenous complex lipids showing great promise for treating diabetes and inflammatory diseases, exist naturally in extremely low concentrations. This work reports a chemo-enzymatic approach for the comprehensive synthesis of phospholipids containing FAHFAs via sequential steps: hydratase-catalyzed hydration of unsaturated fatty acids to generate structurally diverse hydroxy fatty acids (HFAs), followed by the selective esterification of these HFAs with fatty acids mediated by secondary alcohol-specific lipase A (CALA), resulting in the formation of a series of diverse FAHFA analogs. The final synthesis is completed through carbodiimide-based coupling of FAHFAs with glycerophosphatidylcholine.

Current opinions on the management of prolonged ischemic priapism: does penoscrotal decompression outperform corporoglanular tunneling?

Prolonged ischemic priapism presents a treatment challenge given the difficulty in achieving detumescence and effects on sexual function. To evaluate current practice patterns, an open, web-based multi-institutional survey querying surgeons' experience with and perceived efficacy of tunneling maneuvers (corporoglanular tunneling and penoscrotal decompression), as well as impressions of erectile recovery, was administered to members of societies specializing in male genital surgery. Following distribution, 141 responses were received.

Acne excoriée: Diagnostic overview and management.

Acne excoriée (AE) is a skin picking disorder (SPD) within the group of obsessive compulsive (OCD) and related disorders characterized by the compulsive manipulation of acne lesions. AE typically appears in females during adolescence or young adulthood and can cause significant disfigurement and psychosocial impairment. This disorder is under-recognized due to patient discomfort to disclose excoriation habits or lack of behavior awareness.

Factors shaping return to work: a qualitative study among heart failure patients in Denmark.

Purpose: For people of working-age diagnosed with heart failure, return to work (RTW) is often a significant rehabilitation goal. To inform vocational rehabilitation strategies, we conducted a qualitative study aiming at exploring patient experienced support needs, and barriers and facilitators to RTW.

Materials And Methods: Ten men and eight women with heart failure (48-60 years) were interviewed in Denmark during 2022.

Purpose: Despite the inferior outcomes, urethral stricture patients often undergo multiple endoscopic procedures prior to undergoing definitive urethroplasty. We sought to qualitatively evaluate the patient experience of obtaining urethroplasty to better understand the impact of this experience on quality of life.

Materials And Methods: Patients treated with urethroplasty between September 2019 and July 2021 were identified and invited to participate in our study if they had undergone ≥ 2 endoscopic procedures prior to urethroplasty.

Implementation fidelity of a smoke-free workplace intervention in a private medical company: A mixed-methods process evaluation.

Introduction: Smoke-free workplaces are considered an important part of tobacco control strategies. The purpose of this study was to evaluate implementation fidelity and explore the significance of social and contextual factors for the implementation of a strict smoke-free workplace intervention in a large Danish medical company.

Methods: The UK Medical Research Council's guidance for process evaluation was used as a framework.

A Disease-Specific Antibiogram to Evaluate Empiric Coverage Patterns in Fournier's Gangrene.

Objective: To analyze our local antibiogram and antibiotic resistance patterns given concern for multidrug-resistant and fungal organisms in contemporary series detailing causative organisms in Fournier's Gangrene (FG).

Methods: All patients from 2018 to 2022 were identified from the institutional FG registry. Microorganisms and sensitivities were collected from operative tissue cultures.

Screening for anxiety and depression in clinical practice: translating scores from World Health Organization-5/Anxiety Symptom Scale-2/Major Depression Inventory-2 to Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale.

Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate if a combination of World Health Organization-5 (WHO-5), Anxiety Symptom Scale-2 (ASS-2), and Major Depression Inventory-2 (MDI-2) can replace the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) as screening tool for anxiety and depression in cardiac patients across diagnoses and whether it is feasible to generate crosswalks (translation tables) for use in clinical practice.

Methods And Results: We used data from the Danish 'Life with a heart disease' survey, in which 10 000 patients with a hospital contact and discharge diagnosis of ischaemic heart disease, heart failure, heart valve disease, or atrial fibrillation in 2018 were invited. Potential participants received an electronic questionnaire including 51 questions on health, well-being, and evaluation of the health care system.
