Background: Hospitals are rapidly consolidating to create large healthcare systems. Whether outcomes following colorectal cancer resection at flagship hospitals differ from those at non-flagship hospitals is unknown.
Methods: A 6-year retrospective analysis of an all-payor New York State (NYS) hospital database was conducted.
Purpose: Limited data exists evaluating same-day discharge for pediatric Nuss procedure; most being single-center studies. Our analysis, using the NSQIP-P registry, aimed to assess if same-day discharge for the Nuss procedure influenced post-operative outcomes.
Methods: The NSQIP-P database (2017-2022) identified patients who underwent the Nuss procedure.
Purpose: Practice patterns of same-day discharge for pediatric laparoscopic appendectomy for non-perforated appendicitis are not well-analyzed. Our aim is to evaluate current practice patterns and outcomes of same-day discharge for these patients.

Background: The usage of specific ICD-10 diagnosis codes significantly influences hospital reimbursement compared to non-specific codes. Methods: ACS NSQIP-P registry data from 2017 to 2021 was used to evaluate elective pediatric laparoscopic gastrostomy patients who presented from home and discharged home with a diagnosis of failure to thrive, feeding difficulty or dysphagia.

This study sought to quantify the effect of 1 year of clinical experience on performance obtaining SIC in the absence of formal informed consent education.
Design: In this case-control cohort study, PGY1 and PGY2 surgical residents in an academic program were surveyed regarding their experiences and confidence in obtaining SIC; then assessed obtaining informed consent for a right hemicolectomy from a standardized patient.
Introduction: The process by which surgery residency programs select applicants is complex, opaque, and susceptible to bias. Despite attempts by program directors and educational researchers to address these issues, residents have limited ability to affect change within the process at present. Here, we present the results of a design thinking brainstorm to improve resident selection and propose this technique as a framework for surgical residents to creatively solve problems and generate actionable changes.

Research into the effects of inhalants such as toluene on brain function have revealed actions on a variety of ligand-gated and voltage-activated ion channels involved in regulating neuronal excitability. Pyroelectric detectors offer a solution that avoids the spatial uniformity uncertainty but also introduces additional complications due to alternating current (AC) measurement techniques. Herein, a new, to the best of our knowledge, method for low uncertainty irradiance responsivity calibrations in the SWIR is presented.
