Background: Caring for patients with advanced cancer is complex and challenging, requiring varied expertise, including symptom management, communication skills, care coordination and emotional resilience. Within existing literature, the lived experiences of oncology nurses are poorly articulated in countries with a lower income where formal palliative care (PC) is absent.

The associations between spiritual well-being, hope and psychological symptoms in Chinese childhood cancer patients: A path analysis.

Aims: We aimed to test a model in which hope and spiritual well-being acted as protective factors against anxiety and depressive symptoms in childhood cancer patients (CCPs). We hypothesized that hope and spiritual well-being were mutually reinforcing factors that would both reduce anxiety and depressive symptoms.

Methods: Using path analysis, the hypothetical model was tested on a cross-sectional sample of 412 Chinese CCPs aged 8-17 years.

New graduate nurses seem to be academically equipped but cannot integrate their knowledge into practice as they enter the clinical settings. Background: The link between nocturia and aging male symptoms (AMS) has not been scientifically established. This study aimed to measure the degree of severity of AMS that impacts health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in adult males living with nocturia and to determine the predictive values of nocturnal factors on AMS.

Methods: This is an extended analysis of new data collected by using the Hong Kong Traditional AMS (HK-AMS) scale and the Cantonese version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) in a recently published cross-sectional population-based survey.

A Comprehensive Community-Based Prevalence Study on Nocturia in Hong Kong Male Adults.

Background: Most prevalence surveys on nocturia have focused on older populations. This study aimed to measure the nocturia prevalence across the full spectrum of male adults living in Hong Kong, where severity and associated quality-of-life (QoL) were also explored.

Methods: A cross-sectional population-based survey was conducted in men aged 18 or above using the ICIQ-NQoL Questionnaire.

Semi-Individualized Acupuncture for Insomnia Disorder and Oxidative Stress: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Sham-Controlled Trial.

Background: Acupuncture is an alternative treatment for improving sleep, and it may attenuate oxidative stress, which is a possible pathophysiological factor in insomnia. The aim of this study was to examine the efficacy and safety of a semi-individualized acupuncture in improving sleep and explore its effect on oxidative stress parameters in adults with insomnia disorder.

Methods: In this randomized sham-controlled trial, 140 participants were randomly assigned to either a 4-week semi-individualized traditional acupuncture (TA) or noninvasive sham acupuncture (SA).

The purpose of the present study was to examine the association between environmental conditions and QoL and how individual health behaviours affect this association. Comparative study of FosPeg® photodynamic effect on nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells in 2D and 3D models.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) offers an alternative option for the treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). The utilization of 3-dimensional (3D) culture model might provide better understanding of PDT effects on NPC cells. The aim of this in vitro study was to compare PDT effect on NPC cells using 2D and 3D models.

Synergistic Cytotoxic Effects of Ganoderma lucidum and Bacillus Calmette Guérin on Premalignant Urothelial HUC-PC Cells and Its Regulation on Proinflammatory Cytokine Secretion.

Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) is conventionally used as an adjuvant immunotherapy to reduce the recurrence of bladder cancer. To address the issues of efficacy and safety, an ethanol extract of Ganoderma lucidum (GLe) was evaluated for its interaction with BCG. In a model of premalignant human uroepithelial cells (HUC-PC), GLe exerted immediate cytotoxic effects while BCG showed a delayed response, given that both were immunological active in inducing the secretion of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, and monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1).
