COVID-19 testing and financial toxicity in cancer survivors.

Purpose: To investigate the financial strain placed upon cancer survivors during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: We investigated the association of COVID-19 testing with financial toxicity among individuals with a history of cancer from using cross-sectional data from the 2020 National Health Interview Survey. Multivariable logistic regression (MLR) analysis assessed associations between clinical and sociodemographic covariates with being unable to pay medical bills currently and having problems paying medical bills over the last 12 months.

Open and closed reduction methods for intramedullary nailing of femoral shaft fractures: A systematic review and meta-analysis of comparative studies.

Introduction: Closed reduction and intramedullary nailing is the preferred surgical intervention for femoral shaft fractures. Open reduction involves opening the fracture site and is performed in various circumstances. Comparative studies of the approaches have conflicting results.

Transrectal Ultrasound in Prostate Cancer: Current Utilization, Integration with mpMRI, HIFU and Other Emerging Applications.

Transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) has been an invaluable tool in the assessment of prostate size, anatomy and aiding in prostate cancer (PCa) diagnosis for decades. Emerging techniques warrant an investigation into the efficacy of TRUS, how it compares to new techniques, and options to increase the accuracy of prostate cancer diagnosis. Currently, TRUS is used to guide both transrectal and transperineal biopsy approaches with similar cancer detection rates, but lower rates of infection have been reported with the transperineal approach, while lower rates of urinary retention are often reported with the transrectal approach.

Applications of Focused Ultrasound in the Treatment of Genitourinary Cancers.

Traditional cancer treatments have been associated with substantial morbidity for patients. Focused ultrasound offers a novel modality for the treatment of various forms of cancer which may offer effective oncological control and low morbidity. We performed a review of PubMed articles assessing the current applications of focused ultrasound in the treatment of genitourinary cancers, including prostate, kidney, bladder, penile, and testicular cancer.

Association of Race With Cancer-Related Financial Toxicity.

Purpose: We investigated the association between race and FT among previous patients with cancer. Studies show that patients with cancer experience financial toxicity (FT) because of their cancer treatment.

Methods: Data on individuals with a cancer history were collected in this cross-sectional study during 2012, 2014, and 2017, from the US Health Information National Trends Survey.
