Purpose: Treatment of ulnocarpal abutment (UAS) syndrome involves decompression of the pressure and impingement, or abutment of the ulnocarpal articulation. Debridement of triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) tears alone in the patient with UAS may have a failure rate of as much as 25% to 30%. Ulnar shortening osteotomy (USO) can be an effective treatment of failed TFCC debridement.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "John M Stogin"

  • - John M Stogin's research primarily focuses on the surgical treatment of ulnocarpal abutment syndrome (UAS) through various arthroscopic techniques.
  • - A significant study compared the effectiveness of combined arthroscopic procedures involving TFCC debridement and distal ulna resection against TFCC debridement followed by ulnar shortening osteotomy, highlighting the latter as a viable option for cases with high failure rates.
  • - The findings suggest that while TFCC debridement alone can be risky, particularly in patients with UAS, ulnar shortening osteotomy may provide a more reliable solution for managing complications associated with previous surgeries.
