We present here a real time PCR with high resolution melting (HRM) analysis for determining the prevalence and distribution of filarial species in domestic cats residing in brugian filariosis endemic areas of Narathiwat province, Thailand. Filarial species can be clearly distinguished in a single well using a single pair of primers. Blood samples were taken from a total of 2039 domestic cats living in endemic areas.

Hatching of Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus eggs was investigated when exposed to temperatures ranging from -70 to +70°C, at varying degrees of humidity (dry and wet heat, direct sunlight) and lengths of time (seven intervals, ranging from 0.5 to 5 h). Exposure to cold was induced using a domestic refrigerator at 4°C, its freezing compartment at -10°C and a deep freezer at -20, -40 and -70°C.

The diverse sources of allergen prepared from different mosquito body parts usage are a major obstacle to obtaining safe and effective tests and immunotherapy for mosquito bite allergy. The hospital records of 213 outpatients from Bangkok, Thailand, infected with Strongyloides stercoralis as determined by stool inspections were examined retrospectively for the different clinical presentations ascribed to patients with HIV, those with chronic illness, those who used immunosuppressant drugs and relatively healthy subjects. For HIV patients with strongyloidiasis, the most common symptoms were chronic diarrhea, fever, persistent coughing and loss of weight, but only the first three symptoms were significantly different from other immunocompromised hosts. For healthy patients with strongyloidiasis, acute diarrhea and abdominal pain were the most frequent symptoms.
