Osteoid Osteoma (OO) is a common primary bone tumor that often presents with night pain in younger orthopedic patients. Background: Load management is a sports science concept describing the execution of well-established training principles to measure athletic workloads and enhance performance. The term 'load management' has become common in sports media to refer to a much wider range of scenarios, including the idea that by limiting regular season workload for athletes, their health and playoff performance will improve. Objective: Supply-demand mismatch of medial femoral condyle (MFC) osteochondral allografts (OCAs) remains a rate-limiting factor in the treatment of osteochondral defects of the femoral condyle. Surface contour mapping was used to determine whether a contralateral lateral femoral condyle (LFC) versus ipsilateral MFC OCA differs in the alignment of donor:native subchondral bone for large osteochondral defects of the MFC.

For the improvement of surface roughness, titanium joint arthroplasty (TJA) components are grit-blasted with AlO (corundum) particles during manufacturing. There is an acute concern, particularly with uncemented implants, about polymeric, metallic, and corundum debris generation and accumulation in TJA, and its association with osteolysis and implant loosening. The surface morphology, chemistry, phase analysis, and surface chemistry of retrieved and new AlO grit-blasted titanium alloy were determined with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and confocal laser fluorescence microscopy, respectively.

Background: Humeral avulsion of the glenohumeral ligament (HAGL) lesions are an uncommon cause of anterior glenohumeral instability and may occur in isolation or combination with other pathologies. As HAGL lesions are difficult to detect via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and arthroscopy, they can remain unrecognized and result in continued glenohumeral instability.

Objective: Although research has shown the cost-effectiveness of endoscopic versus open repair of sagittal synostosis, few studies have shown how race, insurance status, and area deprivation impact care for these patients. The authors analyzed data from children evaluated for sagittal synostosis at a single institution to assess how socioeconomic factors, race, and insurance status affect the surgical treatment of this population. Osteochondral allograft implantation is a form of cartilage transplant in which a cylindrical graft of cartilage and subchondral bone from a donor is implanted into a patient's prepared articular defect site. No standard exists for matching the cartilage thickness of the donor and recipient. The goal of this study was to use finite element (FE) analysis to identify the effect of cartilage thickness mismatches between donor and recipient cartilage on cartilage stresses in patellar transplants.

Introduction: Pediatric cranial defects can be preceded by prior infection, radiation therapy, failed prior cranioplasty, or cerebrospinal fluid leak, leading to a complex reconstructive environment. The primary aim of this study was to investigate differences in outcomes between pediatric patients with hostile reconstructive environments who received split-calvarial autologous grafts as opposed to prosthetic grafts in cranioplasty.

Background: Studies have demonstrated the acceptability of using a contralateral nonorthotopic lateral femoral condyle (LFC) graft for a circular medial femoral condyle (MFC) osteochondral defect up to 20 to 25 mm in diameter. Larger oblong defects can now be managed using either overlapping circle grafts or a single oblong-shaped osteochondral allograft (OCA).

Adopting electric end-use technologies instead of fossil-fueled alternatives, known as electrification, is an important economy-wide decarbonization strategy that also reduces criteria pollutant emissions and improves air quality. In this study, we evaluate CO and air quality co-benefits of electrification scenarios by linking a detailed energy systems model and a full-form photochemical air quality model in the United States. We find that electrification can substantially lower CO and improve air quality and that decarbonization policy can amplify these trends, which yield immediate and localized benefits.

Multiplex electronic antigen sensors for detection of SARS-Cov-2 spike glycoproteins and hemagglutinin from influenza A are fabricated using scalable processes for straightforward transition to economical mass-production. The sensors utilize the sensitivity and surface chemistry of a 2D MoS transducer for attachment of antibody fragments in a conformation favorable for antigen binding with no need for additional linker molecules. To make the devices, ultra-thin layers (3 nm) of amorphous MoS are sputtered over pre-patterned metal electrical contacts on a glass chip at room temperature.

Objective: This randomized controlled trial examined whether an interactive, risk-focused educational program was associated with higher risk perceptions and decreased prescription opioid use/misuse among emerging adults.
