Objective: To compare the prevalence of angle closure in eyes with retinal vein occlusion (RVO) with control eyes and assess the possible association between angle-closure and RVO.

Patients And Methods: This prospective, blinded case-control study included patients with a history of RVO (cases) and control individuals matched for age and refractive error. Clinical characteristics and angle-based structures derived from anterior-segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) were analyzed.

Article Synopsis
  • Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a significant cause of blindness in working-age adults, with early signs including the loss of pericytes, a type of cell supporting blood vessels.
  • This study analyzed vitreous samples from 125 diabetic and nondiabetic patients to assess pericyte presence, using a scoring system to quantify loss.
  • Results showed that all nondiabetic samples had no pericyte loss, while diabetic patients exhibited varying degrees of loss, indicating a strong link between pericyte loss and blood sugar levels, suggesting that vitreous samples could provide valuable insights for managing diabetes.

Purpose: A review of treat-and-extend regimens (TERs) with intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agents in retinal diseases.

Methods: There is a lack of consensus on the definition and optimal application of TER in clinical practice. This article describes the supporting evidence and subsequent development of a generic algorithm for TER dosing with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agents, considering factors such as criteria for extension.

Retinoblastoma (RB) is extremely rare in adults. We describe a case of RB diagnosed by cytology in a vitrectomy specimen of a 23-year-old patient who presented with diminished visual acuity and retinal detachment in the absence of a clinically-visible mass. Cytological examination of the vitreous fluid showed clusters of loosely cohesive atypical cells with high nuclear to cytoplasmic ratio and "salt and pepper" chromatin pattern in a background of normal neuronal retinal cells.
