Demographic, Clinical, and Behavioral Factors Associated With Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems Use in a Large Cohort in the United States.

Introduction: Our primary purpose is to understand comorbidities and health outcomes associated with electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) use.

Methods: Study participants were Kaiser Permanente (KP) members from eight US regions who joined the Kaiser Permanente Research Bank (KPRB) from September 2015 through December 2019 and completed a questionnaire assessing demographic and behavioral factors, including ENDS and traditional cigarette use. Medical history and health outcomes were obtained from electronic health records.

Characteristics of Patients and Proxy Caregivers Using Patient Portals in the Setting of Serious Illness and End of Life.

There are few studies examining the usage and utility of patient portals among seriously ill and end-of-life populations and their caregivers. The aim of this study was to describe portal user characteristics among patients and their caregivers (proxy login) at two time points: (1) the 12 months following an electronic medical record flag for serious illness and (2) during the last 12 months of life. A retrospective cohort analysis of Kaiser Permanente Colorado (KPCO) patients with serious illness, as defined by Kaiser Permanente's prognostic algorithm, and their proxy caregivers was performed for the two time periods.

Using Self-Reported Data to Segment Older Adult Populations with Complex Care Needs.

Background: Tailored care management requires effectively segmenting heterogeneous populations into actionable subgroups. Using patient reported data may help identify groups with care needs not revealed in traditional clinical data.

Methods: We conducted retrospective segmentation analyses of 9,617 Kaiser Permanente Colorado members age 65 or older at risk for high utilization due to advanced illness and geriatric issues who had completed a Medicare Health Risk Assessment (HRA) between 2014 and 2017.
