The aim of this study was to quantify the training effects of wearing calf-loaded wearable resistance (WR) during a netball specific warm-up in female netball athletes. Twenty-nine high school female netball athletes were matched for change of direction (COD) speed and randomly allocated to either WR training or an unloaded group. Both groups performed the same warm-up two times per week for 6 weeks, with the WR group wearing 1%-1.

This study's purpose was to explore the reliability and differences between IR and ER Fmax and RFD in different testing positions using a novel load-cell device.
Design: A within-subjects repeated-measures design was employed to compare the intersession values and reliability of Fmax and RFD for both shoulder IR and ER across 3 positions: seated-0°, supine-0° and supine-90°.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been associated with numerous complications beyond the respiratory tract, including spinal and joint co-infections and secondary infections. However, we could not locate any reported cases of bilateral shoulder infections with additional spinal infections associated with mild (like our patient) COVID-19 or with more severe cases of COVID-19. We report the case of a healthy 62-year-old male who presented with mild COVID-19 and concurrent methicillin-sensitive (MSSA) bacteremia associated with multiple musculoskeletal sites of deep-seated infection.

We report a case of a 63-year-old female who developed, for the first time, acute pancreatitis within three days of elective lumbar (L) spine surgery that was performed for degenerative disk disease without significant deformity (i.e.

Competitive HS and collegiate pitchers (n = 26) participated in a single session assessment in which shoulder rotator isometric Fmax and RFD were quantified via a portable strain gauge device and throwing velocity via radar. Paired t-tests, stepwise linear regression models and correlational analyses were used to answer the questions of interest.

This necessitates a reevaluation of screening strategies, biomarkers of increased OSA risk, and heightened awareness among healthcare providers about the array of OSA treatments for diverse adult populations. While obesity contributes importantly to OSA pathogenesis, there is substantial evidence that non-anatomical factors also play a crucial role, especially in patients who do not have obesity.

Because bone mechanical properties are relatively reduced in tension compared with compression, adaptations are needed to reduce fracture risk. Several toughening mechanisms exist in bone, yet little is known of the influences of secondary osteon collagen/lamellar 'morphotypes' and potential interplay with intermolecular collagen cross-links (CCLs) in prevalent/predominant tension- and compression-loaded regions.

Understanding what constitutes performance, and what physical, neuromuscular, and biomechanical capacities underlie it, is likely critical to success.
Objective: The aim was to overview the current literature and identify knowledge gaps related to competitive skateboarding performance and associated physical, technical, and tactical demands of Olympic skateboarding disciplines.
When sea urchin puncture injuries occur during coastal recreation or work activities, they often affect extremities, such as hands and feet. There is a plethora of information on treatments for these puncture injuries, with the most common among medical professionals being the removal of all partially embedded spines and the removal of as many fully embedded spines as possible. When the spines are deeply embedded and/or fragmented, they might not be removed, especially when they are not located in critical areas such as tendons or joints.

The purpose of this study was to establish the intra- and inter-day variability of peak force (PF) of a groin squeeze protocol using a custom-designed compression strain gauge device. Sixteen semi-professional soccer players completed three trials over three separate testing occasions with at least 24-h rest between each session.

We consider how the dorsal and plantar cortices of these bones are optimized in quasi-isolation (the conventional view) versus in the context of load sharing along the calcaneal shaft by "tension members" (the plantar ligament and superficial digital flexor tendon). This load-sharing concept replaces the conventional view, as we have argued in a recent publication that employs an advanced analytical model of habitual loading and fracture risk factors of the deer calcaneus.

Eighteen male fast bowlers had IMUs attached to their upper back and bowling wrist. Each participant bowled 36 deliveries, split into three different intensity zones: low = 70% of maximum perceived bowling effort, medium = 85%, and high = 100%.

Current technologies utilized such as 3D motion capture and force plates are too complex and expensive for most practitioners. The aim of this study was to quantify the variability of dual-task walking gait parameters using in-shoe inertial sensors in nonconcussed individuals.

They are widely used for farm-related work and more recently for recreational purposes. The potential for serious injury and death with quad bike use is a growing public health concern.

These PaO signals, which rise in inspiration and fall in expiration, may represent cyclical recruitment/derecruitment and, therefore, a potential clinical monitor to allow titration of ventilator settings in lung injury. However, in hypovolaemia models, these oscillations have the potential to become inverted, such that they decline, rather than rise, in inspiration.

Evaluating anatomical contributions to performance can increase understanding of muscle mechanics and guide physical preparation. While the impact of anatomy on muscular performance is well studied, the effects of regional quadriceps architecture on rapid torque or force expression are less clear. Regional (proximal, middle, and distal) quadriceps (vastus lateralis, rectus femoris, and vastus intermedius) thickness (MT), pennation angle (PA), and fascicle length (FL) of 24 males (48 limbs) were assessed via ultrasonography.

Many believe that the femoral neck is often loaded in rather simple bending, which causes net tension stress in the upper (superior) femoral neck and net compression stress in its inferior aspect ("T/C paradigm"). This T/C loading regime lacks in vivo proof.
