GPR6 is an orphan G protein-coupled receptor with high constitutive activity found in D2-type dopamine receptor-expressing medium spiny neurons of the striatopallidal pathway, which is aberrantly hyperactivated in Parkinson's disease. Here, we solved crystal structures of GPR6 without the addition of a ligand (a pseudo-apo state) and in complex with two inverse agonists, including CVN424, which improved motor symptoms in patients with Parkinson's disease in clinical trials. In addition, we obtained a cryo-electron microscopy structure of the signaling complex between GPR6 and its cognate G heterotrimer.

Moreover, the desire for compactness and a low power threshold for nonlinear phenomena have spurred investigation into integrated and scalable solutions. Historically, crystalline microresonators with Q ∼ 10 were one of the first material platforms providing unprecedented optical performance in a small form factor.

A faster cruising speed increases drag and thereby the thrust () needed to fly, while weight and lift () requirement remains constant. Birds can adjust their wingbeat in multiple ways to accommodate this change in aerodynamic force, but the relative costs of different strategies remain largely unknown. To evaluate the efficiency of several kinematic strategies, I used a robotic wing [E.

The incidence of recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE) changes over time from the first VTE event and depends on the presence of risk factors. In this study, we aimed to determine the yearly incidence of VTE recurrence during five years of follow-up after a first-ever VTE event. For this cohort study, we identified persons who experienced a validated first-ever VTE between 2006-2014 in northern Sweden.

In this work, a slurry iron aluminide-coated ferritic steel SVM12 was subjected to a laboratory experiment mimicking superheater corrosion in a biomass-fired power boiler. The samples were exposed under model Cl-rich biomass conditions, in a KCl + O + HO environment at 600 °C for 168, 2000, and 8000 h. The morphology of corrosion and the composition of the oxide scale and the coating were investigated by a combination of advanced analytical techniques such as FESEM/EDS, SEM/EBSD, and XRD.

The project aims to significantly increase the diagnostic success rate by co-analyzing data from thousands of RD cases, including phenotypes, pedigrees, exome/genome sequencing, and multiomics data. Here we report on the data infrastructure devised and created to support this co-analysis.

Assessing the pathogenicity of genetic variants is a critical aspect of genomic medicine and precision healthcare. Over the last decades, the identification of genetic variants and their characterization has become simpler (advent of high-throughput sequencing technologies, analysis, and visualization support tools, etc.).

The peptide length can vary between 37 and 49 amino acids, with Aβ1-42 being considered the most disease-related length. However, Aβ1-40 is also found in Aβ plaques and has shown to form intertwined fibrils with Aβ1-42.

However, they are often left to their own judgements which can lead to elder abuse not being detected or acted on. The aim was to explore what healthcare and social care staff consider elder abuse, and their experience of elder abuse perpetrated by family members of persons with dementia.

Objective: To determine if poorer skeletal characteristics or worse physical function explain the increased fracture risk in T2D.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This prospective observational study is based on the population-based Sahlgrenska University Hospital Prospective Evaluation of Risk of Bone Fractures study cohort of older women, performed in the Gothenburg area between March 2013 and May 2016.
Unlabelled: Associations between different sarcopenia definitions and the risk of injurious falls were investigated in 75-80-year-old women in the Swedish SUPERB cohort. Only sarcopenia according to the Sarcopenia Definitions and Outcomes Consortium (SDOC) definition was associated with incident injurious falls with and without fractures in older women.
Purpose: To investigate the association between three commonly used sarcopenia definitions and the risk of injurious falls in a population of older Swedish women.
When reasoning about causes of sustainability problems and possible solutions, sustainability scientists rely on disciplinary-based understanding of cause-effect relations. These disciplinary assumptions enable and constrain how causal knowledge is generated, yet they are rarely made explicit. In a multidisciplinary field like sustainability science, lack of understanding differences in causal reasoning impedes our ability to address complex sustainability problems.

Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate treatment rates and fracture outcomes in older women, from a population-based study, 1) diagnosed with osteoporosis, with subsequent referral to their general practitioner (GP), 2) women without osteoporosis, without referral to their GP.
Methods: In total, 3028 women, 75-80 years old were included in the SUPERB cohort.
Neutron reflectivity (NR) is potentially a powerful tool for characterizing chemical and morphological changes in thin films and at buried interfaces in corrosion science. While the scope of NR is limited by its inherent demands for low surface roughness and high sample planarity, these drawbacks are compensated for by the unique ability to detect light elements and distinguish between isotopes. Furthermore, the generally weak absorption of neutrons by matter allows the use of bulky sample environments and experiments.

It has not been investigated if physical activity, according to PASE, is associated with fracture risk independently from the clinical risk factors (CRFs) in FRAX, bone mineral density (BMD), comorbidity, and if such an association is due to differences in physical performance or bone parameters. The purpose of this study was to evaluate if PASE score is associated with bone characteristics, physical function, and independently predicts incident fracture in 3014 75-80-yr-old women from the population-based cross-sectional SUPERB study.

It is still unknown whether these individuals are at a higher risk of developing dementia later. This study aims to examine the relationship between midlife stress-related exhaustion and dementia incidence.

The specifics of Aβ packaging into exosomes remain elusive, although evidence suggests an ESCRT (Endosomal Sorting Complex Required for Transport)-independent origin to be responsible in spreading of AD pathogenesis. Intriguingly, PrP, known to influence exosome abundance and bind oligomeric Aβ (oAβ), can be released in exosomes via both ESCRT-dependent and ESCRT-independent pathways, raising questions about its role in oAβ trafficking.

The purpose of this prospective study was to determine the prevalence of ECG abnormalities, describe levels of N-terminal proBNP (NT-proBNP), and establish their association with dyspnea at long-term follow-up after PE.
Design: All Swedish patients diagnosed with acute PE in 2005 ( = 5793) were identified through the Swedish National Patient Registry.

Lithium niobate on insulator is an excellent electro-optic (EO) platform, exhibiting high modulation efficiency and low optical loss, making it a fitting candidate for pulse generation through electro-optic modulation of continuous-wave (CW) light, a commonly utilized method for generating ultrashort pulses. Here, we demonstrate an on-chip electro-optic comb generation module on thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) consisting of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) amplitude modulator (AM) and a cascaded phase modulator (PM) system driven by a single-electrode drive.
