Anticipation is a fundamental aspect of social life and, following Weber, the hallmark of social action-it means trying to take others' responses to our actions into account when acting. In this article, we propose and argue the relevance of anticipation to the sociological study of diagnosis. To that end, we introduce and elaborate on the concept of diagnosing by anticipation.

Type specimens of birds in the Natural History Museum, University of Oslo, Norway.

A list of all known bird type specimens in the collection of the Natural History Museum, University of Oslo, Norway is presented. The specimens originate from northern Australia, eastern Indonesia or Tristan da Cunha, and have either been collected and described by personnel associated with the museum or sent from other museums in exchange for other specimens. The catalogue is not intended as a taxonomic revision of the treated taxa, and consequently no taxonomic revisions are made, but the type status of some specimens formerly considered to be types is refuted.

On Distributed Cognition While Designing an AI System for Adapted Learning.

When analyzing learning, focus has traditionally been on the teacher, but has in the recent decades slightly moved toward the learner. This is also reflected when supporting systems, both computer-based and more practical equipment, has been introduced. Seeing learning as an integration of both an internal psychological process of acquisition and elaboration, and an external interaction process between the learner and the rest of the learning environment though, we see the necessity of expanding the vision and taking on a more holistic view to include the whole learning environment.

Background: A low test positivity rate is key to keeping the COVID-19 pandemic under control. Throughout the pandemic, several migrant groups in Norway have seen higher rates of confirmed COVID-19 and related hospitalizations, while test positivity has remained high in the same groups. The Norwegian government has used several platforms for communication, and targeted social media advertisements have in particular been an important part of the communication strategy to reach these groups.

Purpose: The aim was to compare rectangular multiforce nickel-titanium (NiTi) wires to rectangular wires with only one force zone. Both types of wires are primarily intended for use during the levelling phase of orthodontic treatment. Thus, basic mechanical properties were examined by means of a three-point bending test.

We employ the concept of chemical immunophenotypes to classify small molecules functionally or mechanistically according to their patterns of effects on primary innate and adaptive immune cells. The high-specificity, low-toxicity cyclin-dependent kinase 8 (CDK8) inhibitor 16-didehydro-cortistatin A (DCA) exerts a distinct tolerogenic profile in both innate and adaptive immune cells.

Embedded systems and the Internet of Things: Can low-cost gas sensors be used in risk assessment of occupational exposure?

The Internet of Things (IoT) explores new perspectives and possible improvements in risk assessment practices and shows potential to measure long-term and real-time occupational exposure. This may be of value when monitoring gases with short-term maximum levels and for time-weighted average (TWA) concentrations used in standard measuring practices. A functional embedded system was designed using low-cost carbon monoxide (CO) electrochemical sensors and long-range-wide-area-network radio communication technology (LoRaWAN) was used to enable internet connectivity.

Do nurses rate diseases according to prestige? A survey study.

Aims: To see whether nurses rate diseases according to prestige and, if so, how their ratings compare to the disease prestige hierarchy previously uncovered among physicians.

Design: Cross-sectional survey.

Methods: In 2014, 122 nurses in a continuing education programme for healthcare personnel in Norway rated a sample of 38 diseases according to how prestigious they see these as being among healthcare workers in general.

Sperm cells vary tremendously in size and shape across the animal kingdom. In songbirds (Aves: Passeri), sperm have a characteristic helical form but vary considerably in size. Most of our knowledge about sperm morphology in this group stems from studies of species in the Northern temperate zone, while little is known about the numerous species in the tropics.

Effects of hand disinfection with alcohol hand rub, ozonized water, or soap and water: time for reconsideration?

The effect of alcohol hand rub was tested in eradicating Escherichia coli, and compared with hand wash using ozonized tap water or soap and water. Alcohol eradicated all bacteria in 10 out of 35 participants, but with an average (SD) of 2330 (4227) cfu/mL left after disinfection, whereas ozonized water removed all bacteria in 10 out of 55 participants, with an average of only 538 (801) cfu/mL left (P = 0.045).

Background: Female promiscuity is highly variable among birds, and particularly among songbirds. Comparative work has identified several patterns of covariation with social, sexual, ecological and life history traits. Commensuration-the transformation of different qualities into a common metric-has recently received increased scholarly attention. While mostly studied at the meso- or macroscale, this article extends the focus to microscale commensuration. Based on fieldwork in a Norwegian emergency medical service, the article analyses how nurses rated patients' pain intensity on a scale from zero to ten.

Cyclin-dependent kinase 7 (CDK7) is the catalytic subunit of the CDK-activating kinase complex. Its function is required for both cell-cycle regulation and transcriptional control of gene expression.

Ozonized water as an alternative to alcohol-based hand disinfection.

Background: Hand hygiene plays a vital role in the prevention of transmission of micro-organisms. Ozone (O) is a highly reactive gas with a broad spectrum of antimicrobial effects on bacteria, viruses, and protozoa. It can easily be produced locally in small generators, and dissolved in tap water, and quickly transmits into ordinary O in the surrounding air.

Gene Promoter Methylation Status - Assessment of Two Pyrosequencing Kits and Three Methylation-specific PCR Methods for their Predictive Capacity in Glioblastomas.

Background: Although methylation of the O-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) gene promoter predicts response to temozolomide in patients with glioblastoma, no consensus exists as to which assay is best for its detection.

Materials And Methods: Methylation of MGMT promoter was examined by methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction (MSP), quantitative real-time MSP, methylation-sensitive high-resolution melting analysis, and two commercial pyrosequencing (PSQ) kits. Survival was compared among 48 patients with glioblastoma according to assay results.

Background: Methylation of the O-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) gene promoter is a well-established predictor of response to the DNA-alkylating agent temozolomide in patients with glioblastoma.

Materials And Methods: Pyrosequencing analysis was used to determine the MGMT promoter methylation status in 61 meningiomas, to clarify whether it might have a predictive role.

Results: Only two tumors (3%) had a mean methylation frequency higher than the cut-off value of 10% for the four CpG sites examined.

Many synthetic groups have reported total syntheses of Cortistatin A; however, these syntheses require between 16 and 30 steps and report between 0.012-2% overall yields, which is not amenable to large-scale production.

Narratives and gatekeeping: making sense of triage nurses' practice.

It is well documented that emergency service staff consider some patients to be 'inappropriate attenders'. A central example is 'trivia', denoting patients with medical problems considered too 'trivial' to warrant attention. Although research has repeatedly shown that frontline staff violate guidelines in turning away 'trivial' patients, existing research has paid insufficient attention to why staff are willing to engage in guideline-violating gatekeeping, which may put both themselves and 'trivial' patients at risk.
