Objective:  The aim of this study was to report complications and outcomes of a cementless total hip arthroplasty (THA) system with a second-generation selective laser-melted screw cup (SCSL).

Study Design:  All THA using the SCSL performed at a single institution between January 2017 and November 2022 were retrospectively evaluated. Patients with a minimum follow-up period of 12 months and complete medical records were included and analyzed for radiographic and clinical outcomes.

Two female (FL 1, FL 2) and one male (ML) 11-wk-old, intact, captive African lion cubs () were presented with a history of mild vestibular signs. Initial serum vitamin A concentrations were low (140 nmol/L) for ML. Calvarial hyperostosis was confirmed using computed tomography (CT) of the head and cervical vertebrae in each cub.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the outcomes of dogs with bilateral medial coronoid disease (MCD) treated with surgery on the worse side and conservative management on the other side.
  • Medical records of 24 dogs were analyzed, focusing on clinical improvement, radiographic changes, and lameness assessments post-treatment.
  • Results indicated that while surgery improved the dogs' walking ability, the surgical side showed worse radiological changes compared to the conservatively treated side.

Relative macroglossia has been identified in brachycephalic compared to mesaticephalic dogs. This study assessed the tongue volume comparing three common brachycephalic breeds, including 30 French bulldogs, 30 pugs, and 15 English bulldogs. Computed tomography scans of intubated dogs with the hard palate suspended were examined for total tongue volume and cross-sectional areas (CSAs) of the tongue, oropharynx, soft palate, and nasopharyngeal airways at three levels: 1, caudal tip of the hard palate; 2, caudal tip of the hamulus; 3 cranial to the basihyoid bone.

Background: Transcranial magnetic motor evoked potentials (TMMEP) are associated with severity of clinical signs and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings in dogs with spinal cord disease.

Hypothesis: That in initially paraplegic dogs with thoracolumbar intervertebral disc herniation (IVDH), MRI findings before surgery and TMMEPs obtained after decompressive surgery are associated with long-term neurological status and correlate with each other.

Animals: Seventeen client-owned paraplegic dogs with acute thoracolumbar IVDH.
